[ Charles is standing in a field. Behind him - in a distance is a house that is his in Westchester in 1962. It's quiet here, and he is enjoying the quiet, though he definitely wasn't expecting it. Last he recalled, he was dripping wet and standing aboard a CIA ship. This was a pleasant surprise, and he was mostly aware that it was a dream. He let his hands slip into his pockets as he took to the quiet grounds.

It is bright outside, cloud free. He looks up, a smile spread across his lips. He thinks of Raven, and how much she might enjoy a few moments here with him. Then he thinks of those CIA agents that he had just met. The clouds change just a little bit when his thoughts change, briefly darkening. The smile fades, just a little, and is replaced with curiosity and a bit of concern.

He turns on a heel and looks around. He's never had a dream be so vivid. ]

[She found it rather quick, actually, succeeding at a remarkably fast pace thanks to all her years of planning for it, and exam prowess pushing her ahead. But she gives Charles a tiny smile, as if she's still that modest girl of years ago.]

So you noticed that.

Isn't it the same for you? If you're talking like that, don't you have something you're working hard for, too?

I have my PhD. I worked very hard for that, but it seems like things are always going on.

[He has a way of getting her to relax, and unexpectedly, Ami finds herself becoming a little more talkative.]

It's the same for me. So I sort of understand.

Each time I'm ready to pursue a goal for myself, something else needs my attention first.

It's not a complaint. I want to accomplish those things, too. But I feel glad for the times to branch out into my own interests and research.

The times to do what you are passionate for, or am I mistaken?

I have things I want to spend more time on. My own research and that sort of thing. Of course, I want to advance in my career, too.

Don't mind me asking what sort of research, do you?

Medical, mostly. But I've also worked with solar power alternatives.

Solar power is an interesting thought. I studied genetics.

Genetics? I'm interested. It's not my field, but I enjoy reading articles about it.

It was important to me. I enjoy the research.

What are you studying specifically?

Mutations. It is what I wrote my thesis on.

I want to read your work. [It's a statement, not precisely a request, not precisely an order. Firm, and expectant.]

I may have some of my research here.

[Well, then there's nothing to do but head right inside. So she steps ahead of him, waiting only once she reaches the door. Then, she turns her head to look over her shoulder.

Charles, are you chivalrous?]

[ Very! He moves to open the door for he to allow her to step inside fist. ]

[Another of those quick, pert smiles and she slips inside the door.

From a wealthy background herself, Ami isn't overawed by the mansion; but she does appreciate good taste, which it shows in abundance. She lets herself take in the various furnishings, and her eyes linger on various works of art.]

This is when I should say what a lovely home it is, right?

Well, in this case it'd be true.

[Charles is certain his mother would be pleased to know.]

I wish I could take credit.

[ He steps forward to lead the way to his study. ]

If they're here, they'd be in my study. Hard to say, being that it's a dream land.

[Whether she was aware or whether she simply refuses to appear caught off-guard, Ami seems unsurprised by the revelation.]

You'd still know best. If this is a dream, it's yours, isn't it?

[They're so obviously on his own turf. Ami doesn't want for permission or to be invited; she heads directly towards the desk.]

It is mine; however, It's never felt so real, so I don't know how much control I have.

[ He moves to the bookshelves. ]

[With a little hop, she's perched on the edge of the desk, legs dangling over the side to wait for Charles.]

[ And he pulls out file, offering it to her. ]

Here's a draft, at least.

[She beams him a still-amused smile, inwardly noting that he doesn't object to her posture or her appropriation of his space.]

Thank you.

[Slender fingers flip through the pages, lighting on nothing for more than a few seconds, but taking in the general level of the file and its contents.]

[ To him, it's like having Raven around, right now. Though she is actually interested in the things that he's written and doesn't tell him it is boring ]

You're welcome. If you would be more comfortable, you are welcome to a chair.

[Quite the opposite: She's interested.

She takes Charles' offer for insistence, and hops lightly down from the desk.]

You're methodical when you try to be. Your research is easy to follow.
