[ Charles is standing in a field. Behind him - in a distance is a house that is his in Westchester in 1962. It's quiet here, and he is enjoying the quiet, though he definitely wasn't expecting it. Last he recalled, he was dripping wet and standing aboard a CIA ship. This was a pleasant surprise, and he was mostly aware that it was a dream. He let his hands slip into his pockets as he took to the quiet grounds.

It is bright outside, cloud free. He looks up, a smile spread across his lips. He thinks of Raven, and how much she might enjoy a few moments here with him. Then he thinks of those CIA agents that he had just met. The clouds change just a little bit when his thoughts change, briefly darkening. The smile fades, just a little, and is replaced with curiosity and a bit of concern.

He turns on a heel and looks around. He's never had a dream be so vivid. ]

[ Very! He moves to open the door for he to allow her to step inside fist. ]

[Another of those quick, pert smiles and she slips inside the door.

From a wealthy background herself, Ami isn't overawed by the mansion; but she does appreciate good taste, which it shows in abundance. She lets herself take in the various furnishings, and her eyes linger on various works of art.]

This is when I should say what a lovely home it is, right?

Well, in this case it'd be true.

[Charles is certain his mother would be pleased to know.]

I wish I could take credit.

[ He steps forward to lead the way to his study. ]

If they're here, they'd be in my study. Hard to say, being that it's a dream land.

[Whether she was aware or whether she simply refuses to appear caught off-guard, Ami seems unsurprised by the revelation.]

You'd still know best. If this is a dream, it's yours, isn't it?

[They're so obviously on his own turf. Ami doesn't want for permission or to be invited; she heads directly towards the desk.]

It is mine; however, It's never felt so real, so I don't know how much control I have.

[ He moves to the bookshelves. ]

[With a little hop, she's perched on the edge of the desk, legs dangling over the side to wait for Charles.]

[ And he pulls out file, offering it to her. ]

Here's a draft, at least.

[She beams him a still-amused smile, inwardly noting that he doesn't object to her posture or her appropriation of his space.]

Thank you.

[Slender fingers flip through the pages, lighting on nothing for more than a few seconds, but taking in the general level of the file and its contents.]

[ To him, it's like having Raven around, right now. Though she is actually interested in the things that he's written and doesn't tell him it is boring ]

You're welcome. If you would be more comfortable, you are welcome to a chair.

[Quite the opposite: She's interested.

She takes Charles' offer for insistence, and hops lightly down from the desk.]

You're methodical when you try to be. Your research is easy to follow.

That was my goal. Not all who wish to read it are experienced in the research.

It's outside my field, but it's easy enough to follow. [She's got a sharp mind, after all; and she's interested.]

You're talking about genetic mutations leading to superhuman abilities.

Do you believe all such abilities are the result of these mutations?

I believe that would be the next logical stage of human evolution.

What if power came from outside of genetic mutations, too?

It would still be considered a mutation for a human to have an ability, based on my research.

[She's not showing off, except that of course she is. But there's a point to her theatrics this time as icicles start to form near the corners of the walls, high up and then creeping down towards the floor.

Ami's lips curve upwards. She doesn't mind showing this at all, even without transforming, in the dream. She'd like to live openly.]

Impressive. [ And when he says this it is completely sincere. ] You're a mutant, too, then.

[She doesn't consider it the most impressive; but it suffices as a demonstration and she likes that reaction. However, she disagrees; this is what she'd been trying to lead him towards as they spoke.]

I'm a senshi. The soldier of Water. To my knowledge, it isn't related to genetic mutations.

You may need to elaborate.

[She goes for the simplest explanation not because he couldn't follow a more complicated one, but because it involves so many things another world, a human in another world, would have no experience with: their star seeds, the Moon Kingdom, reincarnations.]

Just this: The Water is mine. And, it's different than a genetic mutation.

[She pauses, frowning thoughtfully. Is it different? Or are their powers now also a remnant of DNA from when they were the immortal beings of the Moon Kingdom, far removed from humans indeed?]

As far as I know.

[She tacks on the addition begrudgingly; she hates admitting the uncertainty.]

I wouldn't exclude the possibility of it being a genetic mutation.

[ Charles approached and chose to sit on the edge of an end table nearby. ]

I'm a telepath, myself.

A telepath? [She doesn't doubt it. It makes her instantly guarded, because she believes it. Instantly, she clamps down on her own thoughts.]

I'm not prying, I promise.

[It doesn't make her relax. She doesn't believe promises. Besides, she's had people go to great lengths for chances to see her mind before - the mind of the genius girl, the strategist, the soldier with secrets.]

Good. [Her voice is firm, clipped, despite the fear she'd never acknowledge.]

If you decide to change that, I'll make sure to pay you back for it. Understood?

I've made that promise before, I can keep it.
