[ Charles is standing in a field. Behind him - in a distance is a house that is his in Westchester in 1962. It's quiet here, and he is enjoying the quiet, though he definitely wasn't expecting it. Last he recalled, he was dripping wet and standing aboard a CIA ship. This was a pleasant surprise, and he was mostly aware that it was a dream. He let his hands slip into his pockets as he took to the quiet grounds.

It is bright outside, cloud free. He looks up, a smile spread across his lips. He thinks of Raven, and how much she might enjoy a few moments here with him. Then he thinks of those CIA agents that he had just met. The clouds change just a little bit when his thoughts change, briefly darkening. The smile fades, just a little, and is replaced with curiosity and a bit of concern.

He turns on a heel and looks around. He's never had a dream be so vivid. ]

[It was a predictable retort from her as she tilted her head.]

Don't you think that's important?

Being proud is, yes?

[ Charles disagrees on the better, but he knows that speaking up isn't always the best option. Instead he nods towards a chessboard. ]

Do you play?

[Oh, she could debate that question quite peacefully, but a pleasant game of chess it shall be! Ami grins, arrogant but perhaps as close to friendly as she gets.]

Are you sure you want to challenge me?

It's a friendly game, nothing more. [ Though he smiles at those words. ]

[She's eager for a challenge, no matter how friendly. There's no more holding back, here - and finally, she has an opponent who can stand up to that anyway.

She's thrilled.]

Let's begin, then. Go ahead and set it up.

[She even finally leaves her perch on the desk, ostensibly to sit more normally somewhere.]

[ Charles takes a seat at the chessboard and moves the pieces to the starting spots on the board. ]

Alright.

[Ami helps by setting up her own side, then glances away from the board towards the nearby walls. The ice, finally, vanishes as she does.]

That should be more comfortable.

[ Of course, Charles is still impressed by the ability that she has. ]

Considerably more comfortable.

[ He has the white pieces on her side of the board, since he'll have her go first. ]

[She plays a strong, aggressive opening game, which will set her tone for the entire match. It doesn't take long to notice she seems to enjoy trying to pare down Charles' available forces before making her real bid for victory.]

[ Charles is a bit impressed with how she plays and how aggressive she is, while he takes the slower, approach to everything. Of course, Ami looks like she will win, but that's alright. ]

[She's the one impressed soon enough. It's rare to find someone who matches her, who holds their own, who even makes her wonder if she will win.]

You're no novice.

[ Smiles and moves his fingers over the pieces once she claims a victory. ]

Thank you, I enjoy these games for discussion more than anything.

I'm entering the tournament next month. I intend to win there.

I wish you luck, but I doubt you truly need it.

[It'd be nice, it strikes her suddenly, if he could attend. If someone hoping for her victory could be there.

But of course, this is all confined to dreams. When she wakes up, there'll be nothing more than faint, self-mocking smile as she lets idea fade along with the dream itself.]

You have confidence in me! I kind of like it.

Well, you did beat me.

I prefer a fair game. [ Taps at the side of his head with his index finger. ] It is a game I prefer that way. Even with my additional skills.

Offering another match doesn't mean I have any intention of losing it. You'll win it only if you can.

That's my hope.
