[ Charles is standing in a field. Behind him - in a distance is a house that is his in Westchester in 1962. It's quiet here, and he is enjoying the quiet, though he definitely wasn't expecting it. Last he recalled, he was dripping wet and standing aboard a CIA ship. This was a pleasant surprise, and he was mostly aware that it was a dream. He let his hands slip into his pockets as he took to the quiet grounds.

It is bright outside, cloud free. He looks up, a smile spread across his lips. He thinks of Raven, and how much she might enjoy a few moments here with him. Then he thinks of those CIA agents that he had just met. The clouds change just a little bit when his thoughts change, briefly darkening. The smile fades, just a little, and is replaced with curiosity and a bit of concern.

He turns on a heel and looks around. He's never had a dream be so vivid. ]

I can't live my life by what someone else will think of it. [Not anymore. She'd spent the first fourteen years of it living it for others, worrying about their view of her. Now? She'll simply make the world to suit her.]

I don't. Never have. [ Charles has always been a rather independent person. ]

And yet you dream of something like peace? You'd need every heart in your world to agree to that feeling, or it wouldn't happen.

[She's seen that only happen once - and it hadn't been for peace. Quite the opposite, the people of Earth had come together for the power to repel their enemy.]

Doesn't mean I won't.

[Her lips shape a single word.]

Stubborn.

[She says it like something good.]

Incredibly. [ Chuckles. ]

That's a better trait to rely on.

Is it?

Oh, yes. It will make you keep going until you make what you want to see for yourself.

But I should be willing to compromise to obtain those goals.

That depends on the compromise. Some are unacceptable.

I'm working on not being as stubborn.

You should decide one thing now:

When will you be willing to stop compromise, and fight?

[She lets him believe she's only being antagonistic if he wants; but she also speaks the truth: If he doesn't know, clearly, how far is too far, he may either be pushed too far, or hesitate when the time comes to strike.]

I will know when the time comes.

If you say things like that, 'I'll know when it's time' or 'something will work out', you won't be ready when you need to be.
