[ Charles is standing in a field. Behind him - in a distance is a house that is his in Westchester in 1962. It's quiet here, and he is enjoying the quiet, though he definitely wasn't expecting it. Last he recalled, he was dripping wet and standing aboard a CIA ship. This was a pleasant surprise, and he was mostly aware that it was a dream. He let his hands slip into his pockets as he took to the quiet grounds.

It is bright outside, cloud free. He looks up, a smile spread across his lips. He thinks of Raven, and how much she might enjoy a few moments here with him. Then he thinks of those CIA agents that he had just met. The clouds change just a little bit when his thoughts change, briefly darkening. The smile fades, just a little, and is replaced with curiosity and a bit of concern.

He turns on a heel and looks around. He's never had a dream be so vivid. ]

That depends on the compromise. Some are unacceptable.

You should decide one thing now:

When will you be willing to stop compromise, and fight?

[She lets him believe she's only being antagonistic if he wants; but she also speaks the truth: If he doesn't know, clearly, how far is too far, he may either be pushed too far, or hesitate when the time comes to strike.]

If you say things like that, 'I'll know when it's time' or 'something will work out', you won't be ready when you need to be.

'Hope' never did me any good.

What did it do for you? [It's a challenge, but an honest question. She wants to be persuaded, in some small part of herself she'd deny if asked.]

[identity profile] waterfell.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
I see. [She doesn't insist. He has a reason for not sharing that she'd probably say herself.] Then I won't ask again.

[She understands it.

It doesn't help her believe in that hope. She moves away from the subject.]

Instead, then, let's not talk about things like that at all.

[identity profile] waterfell.livejournal.com 2011-09-26 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
I'll take you at your word, then.

There aren't many people who don't say one thing and mean another. Some more than others.

It's better that way. Relying on my own self, I can be sure of the results.

[And she can avoid the disappointments.]

[identity profile] waterfell.livejournal.com 2011-09-28 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
It's better for me. [The tiny smirk challenges him to argue.]

I have no intention of playing the fool, to anyone. For anyone's sake. I'll make my own way to the goals I want to reach.
