[ Charles is standing in a field. Behind him - in a distance is a house that is his in Westchester in 1962. It's quiet here, and he is enjoying the quiet, though he definitely wasn't expecting it. Last he recalled, he was dripping wet and standing aboard a CIA ship. This was a pleasant surprise, and he was mostly aware that it was a dream. He let his hands slip into his pockets as he took to the quiet grounds.

It is bright outside, cloud free. He looks up, a smile spread across his lips. He thinks of Raven, and how much she might enjoy a few moments here with him. Then he thinks of those CIA agents that he had just met. The clouds change just a little bit when his thoughts change, briefly darkening. The smile fades, just a little, and is replaced with curiosity and a bit of concern.

He turns on a heel and looks around. He's never had a dream be so vivid. ]

Results always show themselves eventually. Ask yourself if it's a step closer to your goal.

If it's not, abandon it. Continue something else that is.

You can never know for certain if it is towards your goal, only do what you think is right and hope. Hindsight is the only true way of knowing.

'Hope' won't get you to 'progress'.

Sometimes progress is based on luck.

You're talking about things like the discovery of penicillin. However, that sort of situation is rare.

Rare, not impossible.

Rare enough that it can't be relied on. [It's just... an unexpected bonus, if something like that came together.]

I am relying on the hope that I made the right choices. It has gotten me this far.

How are you sure of it? [She really wants to know. Because every choice she's made, she has those nagging doubts. That question of whether it was the right one.]

Because of your powers? [After all, it'd be easy to be sure of yourself when you can read everyone around you so easily.]

The truth is, I don't feel that confident about knowing people.

[Not sure he's comfortable sharing anything other than he's confidence.]

You can learn confidence.

And people? Can they be learned?

[This is a girl who tried, for a long time. This is a girl who finally gave up believing she could mean something to someone, and settled for forcing it, warping the minds of her classmates to adore her.]

Most likely.

Teach someone that, and I'll be impressed.

Don't think it can be taught.

Just learned? Then how is it learned?

Trial and error, I presume.

Isn't there such a thing as too many errors in that?
