Mingle Post: Movie Night
Who: Everyone! Open to All
What: "Movie Night" mingle log
When: any time agreed upon by the players
Where: anywhere there might be movies showing: theatres, dvd rooms, homes, drive-ins. also, movie settings.
It's an old, old, story: falling asleep and dreaming of that movie that was playing until just a few moments ago. Maybe taking the part of the hero, maybe the dastardly villain, or maybe even just some side character there to fill a purpose in the plot and no more. It might be a dashing adventure, a passionate drama, a sickly sweet romance - anything at all. But it's playing out right now.
Or maybe the movie is playing up on the screen. There's a comfortable couch at a DVD Room, or a seat at the theatre (amid a crowd, or alone with that special someone at the back of the room), or even just a comfortable chair in a warm, cozy house.
Whatever it may be, movies are the order of the night.
(ooc: This is a post to keep threads together for the Movie Night theme. Separate posts are also fine, and this one is optional. Feel free to be part of a movie, or watching one; if need be, specify in the subject line)

a German foreign film (watching)
As the glare of the screen casts an eerie light over the room, the movie begins. It's a foreign film, German. There are no subtitles. Ami keeps her attention closely focused on the screen; the nuances of each movement, each expression, help to fill in whatever she doesn't quite understand. She finds herself overanalyzing them, trying to discern the characters' motives too early.
She gives a look that freeze the blood of the people talking too loudly a few rows away, particularly the one who pops open their cell phone, emitting a distracting light.

"Why couldn't you pick a movie in English. I'm not going to spend my time reading." He offered her some popcorn. It is delicious.
no subject
There was worse news, delivered cheerfully: "There aren't subtitles, either." Just German. Evidently, Ami had confidence in her ability. And she may have been teasing Kanda a little, bringing him here, knowing he might not enjoy it. More truthfully, she had to admit it was impressive of him to have decided to come at all.
She slipped her hand into the popcorn tub, and pulled out just a few pieces, which she popped into her mouth.

So you're telling him he's stuck in this movie theater listening to a bunch of Germans and having nothing to entertain himself but that? Yeah, this was going to be miserable. He wasn't hungry anymore, he slipped the popcorn over to Ami's lap and shrugged into his seat lifting up his boots and resting them on top of the backrest of the chair in front of him.
"I should have thought about this before I agreed."

But a quick glance to her side revealed that Ami-chan was quite enthralled with the subject matter -- so much so that Usagi actually looked back to towards the screen and squinted, as though trying to see what it was Ami could...
But it was still the same movie, no matter how she looked at it. Sighing softly, she leaned back in her seat again, seemingly resigned to the fact that she didn't know what was going on.
no subject
It was one of the better movie-going experiences she'd had in a long time. There was a petty streak in her that wanted to rub it in even more directly: this is how separate we are, and, it's on my terms now, not yours.
A surprisingly long span of the movie passed in this way until Ami noticed Usagi was actually sitting quietly. (Well, mostly quietly.) She gave the seat beside her a quick look before she decided to taunt. instead.
"Isn't this movie fun, Usagi-chan?" The name she used was entirely flippant, a mockery of friends out on the town.
no subject
"Fun?" she repeated the word, then looked back towards the screen. "Well... I'm not sure if I would call it fun exactly... But! You're enjoying it right, Ami-chan?"

a War movie (participant)
The odd thing is that the dream is not in color - except for Homura herself. The dark hair, the purple dress, the red ribbons that are more vibrant than anything else; those are the only hues and tones against the monochrome.
She's running. The girl in color darts from shelter to cover, barely stopping to breathe each time she makes it. She's gone back to the explosives; aside from the grenades she's carrying, there are mines already planted.
As her latest blast kicks up a panic among the enemy lines, Homura alone remains impassive, a spot of calm amid the confusion. The only emotion betrayed is surprise when she spots someone she hadn't expected...

Madoka was nowhere near, and would not see this.
"Miki Sayaka," she addressed her fellow soldier by her full name, "You will do no good continuing to fight in this condition. Wait for a medic."

a Lolita girl / slice of life film (participant)
Dale shifted his weight a little in his chair, finding his wardrobe constricting. He was wearing, or preferred the term 'found himself hostage' to his own lolita fashions: shoes with knee high leggings, skirt with an overabundance of layering and frills, a suffocating corset and complimentary shoulder-length wig, all a lively shade of strawberry red and creamy off-white.
The parlor around him was similarly not at a shortage for extravagance and victorian charm, oh and it felt oppressive, Dale considered his surroundings wearily and with furrowed brow. He couldn't seem to back his chair away from the table and the weight of the entire wardrobe kept him planted for teatime, like it or not.
The embarrassment was growing unbearable, so anyone who happened upon him would discover him pounding his face into the tablecloth in attempt to wake up and find a different scenario, teaset clanking and rattling as he did so. To put the cherry on top of this baffling scenario the chipmunk wanted the chocolate on the other end of the table, out of reach.
no subject
She ignored Dale's discomfort entirely, almost as though her movements and words were scripted as she lifted up the teapot.
"Shall I be Mother?"
no subject
Dale made an effort to push back the dread nipping in the back of his mind that something horrible would happen to his mother, or was it Homura? He answered anyway in faith that he was joining his mother again in a place where nothing bad could happen.
"Yes." He added in efforts to play the part he had been charged with playing, "Would you?"
He swallowed hard. It could just have easily appeared to Homura that he was still pining after the chocolate on the table, but more than anything he wanted this chance to talk to her in case his mother really had come to visit him in dreaming.

American Action Film (Watching)
She was the unhappiest moviegoer ever. Popcorn in her lap, in her princess dress, looking quite displeased. The more the film went on, the more perturbed she became. "Physics do not work that way." The proclamation is soft, popcorn being tossed into her mouth between remarks. Of course, the theater is swathed in blue instead of red, because this is her dream and that's how it works.
"Oh please. Were a vehicle to hit a wall at that speed, it would not flip three times and still be able to drive. It would be crushed on impact, kill every passenger inside, and cause a chain reaction that would shut down that entire roadway." She huffed, her cheeks almost puffing out.
"Ridiculous..."
no subject
Ami was entirely unrepentant as she chased the salty butter taste with a few sips of a large-sized drink. She gave the screen a duplicate of Princess Mercury's skeptical look, though she seemed to enjoy the pace and excitement of the scenes.
"Are you saying you'd prefer that?" she suggested slyly.

Mina's loving this. it's just back to business as usual.
the final gunfight, where Mina dramatically jumps in front of the hero dramatically in order to dramatically take a bullet for him and dramatically die. he wins, despairs, and the film ends.
Mina's standing in the white world of a filmless screen, back to you. then she turns around and...giggles.]
You know, I think that was pretty Oscar worthy! Don't you?
[then she tries twirling the gun like a pro, but it flies out of her hand and goes off with a deafening BANG when it hits the ground, Mina ducking and covering her head while she shrieks]
/film critic
I'm not a member of the Academy, Miss Aino. I'm here to write a review.
[And evidently, not to be sidetracked or wooed. She seems about to say more when the gun goes off. Deciding not to assume it's unloaded, although it should be, she, too, takes cover, ducking low behind the seats.
Once the crisis is past, Ami calmly stands up, and steps purposefully towards the fallen prop. She bends down to pick it up without a word.]

Sorryyyyy. At least they're just blanks!
[usually she's too used to sour-pussed reviewers and panelists to give the attitude much thought, but it's Ami]

Mianko-chan, that was amazing! ( she was beaming; she couldn't have been happier ) And the ending -- waaaahh! It was so sad, I never saw it coming!!

Thanks! [to cover her discomfort, Mina switches to 'melodramatic' mode, with exaggerated movements and excessive emotion:] Oh, but wasn't it tragic? [she holds a hand to one chest in a display of trying to keep in emotion] I'm so glad you felt it, too.
You know. [she puts a finger to her lips and winks conspiratorially] Maybe I should get you in on one of these sometime.

sappy love story (watching)
Their love is torn apart suddenly; alas! It's discovered. She's to be married off, he's left to try and win her back.
In the end, they come together for one last dramatic kiss, and Minako's left there, clutching her bowl of popcorn with one hand, and in the other are tissues to pat at the tears streaming down her face.]

In the Dark Kingdom, the sailor senshi are caught dead near her.She is, however, watching the sort of movie no Ami, ever, would admit to liking, but that quite a few would sneak off to see if they thought they could pass unnoticed in the darkened theatre. Kind of like this one right now.
It's when the lights come up that she hears a rather familiar sniffling sound. She freezes for a second as she finds herself staring right into the face of Aino Minako. Not possible. Not possible. And somehow, she thinks it through: It has to be a dream. But even then...
She plunges through the utter embarrassment of being caught here with bravado.]
Why are you also here?
no subject
Minako knows Ami's aversion to love, which makes her think twice as to why she was here.
She leans forward.] Unless Ami-chan secretly loves heartfelt romantic movies!
