Mingle Post: Movie Night

Where: anywhere there might be movies showing: theatres, dvd rooms, homes, drive-ins. also, movie settings.

It's an old, old, story: falling asleep and dreaming of that movie that was playing until just a few moments ago. Maybe taking the part of the hero, maybe the dastardly villain, or maybe even just some side character there to fill a purpose in the plot and no more. It might be a dashing adventure, a passionate drama, a sickly sweet romance - anything at all. But it's playing out right now.

Or maybe the movie is playing up on the screen. There's a comfortable couch at a DVD Room, or a seat at the theatre (amid a crowd, or alone with that special someone at the back of the room), or even just a comfortable chair in a warm, cozy house.
Whatever it may be, movies are the order of the night.

[Very sneaky, Ami. You're trying to make him feel bad but that wasn't going to work. Nope. He pulls the popcorn out of her hand, moves the cup holder out of the way and wraps an arm around her shoulder. He's going to annoy you.]

I like having dates with you, but you can't expect me to pay attention to that.

[waterfell]

[She has a movie to pay attention to, even if he doesn't. Ami ostentatiously keeps her eyes on the screen... though Kanda may notice the way she leans back against his arm, just lightly.]

Why not? It's a very highly reputed film.

[Intentional ignorance, or does she truly think everyone would like it for that reason?]

[decaying]

Do you even speak German?

[She probably did, Ami was amazing. But come on, why did it have to be this? He pulled her close resting his head against hers glaring at the screen. Maybe if he stared hard enough it would burst into flames.]

[waterfell]

I wouldn't watch it if I didn't speak German.

[Despite the joke of having brought Kanda here, Ami was genuinely interested in the film. She'd heard good promising reviews and mentions of it.

Still, although the screen did not burst into flames under Kanda's glare, Ami didn't push him away, either. She glanced at him once or twice, distracted from the film for at least those brief seconds.]

[decaying]

That makes sense.

[He noticed she kept turning to look at him and he smirked, reaching to catch her chin during one of these intervals.]

What are you looking at me for?

[waterfell]

You're not paying attention.

[It was exactly keeping an eye on the misbehaving boy. Of course.]

[decaying]

I'm paying attention, just not at the movie.

[waterfell]

[Oh, she definitely preferred being the center of his attention herself, and Ami probably wouldn't mind Kanda's efforts to distract her. Despite that, she gave him a quick look.]

Don't disrupt it.

[The smile was a challenge to do so anyway; but she didn't make the first move. She only rarely ever did.]

[decaying]

[Kanda picked up the challenge and his hand around her shoulder started playing with her hair.]

I can't help it. [Pay attention to him.]

[waterfell]

[That felt nice. Relaxing. Ami kept her eyes on the film, but she gave an audibly deeper breath than normal. A few moments later, late, she did the same to him, brushing the nape of his neck as she slid long fingers through his dark hair.]

Watch carefully to understand it.

[decaying]

Understand what?

[He wasn't sure if she was really talking about the film or about her. Either way, he wasn't going to turn her attention from her. Not now. Way too pretty. Way too interesting.]

[waterfell]

The movie. [She seemed serious, but she was good at that. Almost ostentatiously, she put her hands in her lap, folded neatly - though she didn't make Kanda stop, either.]

[decaying]

I can't pay attention to something I don't even understand. [No, Ami. Don't behave, stop it. He pulled his hand back and just crossed his arms over his chest.] This is stupid.

[waterfell]

You can understand from what you see, and from their body language and tone.

[Yes, Ami, this was the perfect time and place for a theoretical discussion of how much can be gained without dialogue. Clearly.]

[decaying]

[Fine. He'll try that.]

That guy looks pissed off. So does she. I don't like him so I'm not going to bother with that guy.

[waterfell]

Anyone would be angry. [Apparently, the guy had reason to be pissed off.]

[decaying]

Why is he angry?

[waterfell]

He feels betrayed. [Was a better reason than that, needed? She'd argue that no, it was more than sufficient.]

[decaying]

I know his pain. I feel betrayed myself. [Looking at a movie and ignoring him, you are a cruel woman.]

[waterfell]

[There were plenty of ways to demand Ami's attention, none of which Kanda was attempting. It made her a bit put-out, and that made her decide to go ahead for herself. Sitting and waiting wasn't like her anymore.

She also wasn't good at this. She started by reaching for his hand.]

[decaying]

[He was still grumbling under his breath when she took his hand. He didn't push it away, he simply took it and squeezed. Maybe if he sat through this for you you could cook him soba after?]

[waterfell]

[She might be able to come up with soba if he asked. For the time being, Ami watched the film without disruption, a scene that must have been the climax but didn't seem particularly different from anything else about it except in the instrumental score, a simple melody underscored by mournful tempos.

After this, when he still hadn't made a move, Ami matter of factly turned to Kanda, and turned his face towards hers. She leaned closer.]

[decaying]

[Kanda turned in surprise when Ami forced his head and eventually leaned in to meet her half way. This was more like it. He kissed her, secretly and intimately. No one could see them, right?]

[waterfell]

[No; the theatre was dark. She'd made sure of that before kissing him, even checking to be sure any people near them seemed to have their eyes and attention on the screen.

She even let herself close her eyes.]

[Something odd happens because of the two boys know him. Ami sees him as the father that chose to stay with him, even with the journey he would have to take for his world... but on the other hand, most see him only with the helmet.

It's that why there's a man in an expensive suit with a helmet that recognizes the boy.
