Mingle Post: Movie Night

Who: Everyone! Open to All
What: "Movie Night" mingle log
When: any time agreed upon by the players
Where: anywhere there might be movies showing: theatres, dvd rooms, homes, drive-ins. also, movie settings.

It's an old, old, story: falling asleep and dreaming of that movie that was playing until just a few moments ago. Maybe taking the part of the hero, maybe the dastardly villain, or maybe even just some side character there to fill a purpose in the plot and no more. It might be a dashing adventure, a passionate drama, a sickly sweet romance - anything at all. But it's playing out right now.

Or maybe the movie is playing up on the screen. There's a comfortable couch at a DVD Room, or a seat at the theatre (amid a crowd, or alone with that special someone at the back of the room), or even just a comfortable chair in a warm, cozy house.
Whatever it may be, movies are the order of the night.

[There were plenty of ways to demand Ami's attention, none of which Kanda was attempting. It made her a bit put-out, and that made her decide to go ahead for herself. Sitting and waiting wasn't like her anymore.

She also wasn't good at this. She started by reaching for his hand.]

[He was still grumbling under his breath when she took his hand. He didn't push it away, he simply took it and squeezed. Maybe if he sat through this for you you could cook him soba after?]

[She might be able to come up with soba if he asked. For the time being, Ami watched the film without disruption, a scene that must have been the climax but didn't seem particularly different from anything else about it except in the instrumental score, a simple melody underscored by mournful tempos.

After this, when he still hadn't made a move, Ami matter of factly turned to Kanda, and turned his face towards hers. She leaned closer.]

[Kanda turned in surprise when Ami forced his head and eventually leaned in to meet her half way. This was more like it. He kissed her, secretly and intimately. No one could see them, right?]

[No; the theatre was dark. She'd made sure of that before kissing him, even checking to be sure any people near them seemed to have their eyes and attention on the screen.

She even let herself close her eyes.]

[Something odd happens because of the two boys know him. Ami sees him as the father that chose to stay with him, even with the journey he would have to take for his world... but on the other hand, most see him only with the helmet.

It's that why there's a man in an expensive suit with a helmet that recognizes the boy.

What are you doing?

[It's that bastard.]

[He had started to get a little comfortable brushing a thumb against the smooth pale skin of her cheek when he heard something behind him. He pulled away from Ami slowly his tongue no longer assaulting hers before turning to glare at the idiot with a helmet.]

What the hell are you doing? Sit down and watch the movie. [Away from us.]

[If asked, Ami wouldn't have been able to think of many worse scenarios for the first meeting (as she assumed) of the Master Chief and Kanda. It caught her off-guard enough for a few full seconds to pass by before she gathered her wits for a response. Her voice was low, not argumentative, but firm.]

Don't talk to him like that. [Evidently, she knew him.]

[And as for John himself... It'd be a bit harsh to say she wanted him to disappear, but did he have to see this? She could have sworn he wasn't there a second ago. Even in the suit, he was tall enough to be easily noticed.]

[A beat. It's dumb to ask if she knows him, but he expected someone that wouldn't be that much of a jackass.]

Looking for her. [Somehow retaining his serenity.] We know eachother.

[Unfortunately, it's not only the girl whom he knows.]

[That sting that came when Ami told him not to speak like that to this bastard made him wince. He turned around and gave her a look. At the moment, he wasn't important right now, especially now that he wasn't wearing that ridiculous suit. No, he was much worse. A helmet? A helmet couldn't save you from his sword, a sword he always carried (It's kind of made of his own blood so he has no choice).]

You mind explaining to me what's going on here, Ami? [Because you stopping this over some guy after the little trick you pulled during... you know... this isn't looking good in your boyfriends head.]

[This was an introduction she'd never imagined she'd have to make.]

This is the Master Chief, John. We fought together in Econtra. [Comrades in arms. There's so much more to say, really, but how can she explain dreams of herself as a child, learning chess from the man who seemed to be her father?]

[It was John's turn, then. She gave the name in Western order, for him.] This is Yu Kanda. [It was then, at the worst time, that she realized she was going to have to say what should have been obvious at this point.] My boyfriend.

[By then, she had recovered enough to find some of the humor in the ironic and ridiculous situation.] So, let's get along well!

[She turns to Ami with the reminder of Econtra. For what it was worth, nothing else was needed to be said about it. It was a relationship that has spanned five years, and more than once has he been grateful to be able to see her.

Then she confesses that boy is her boyfriend.

It's not something he's familiar with. Cortana would often joke they were a married couple, but being conscripted makes dating difficult. He wishes he could understand Ami's logic beside wanting physical contact.

She looks at Ami. Then returns his glare at Kanda. Sadly obedient to Ami.]

[That makes two people obediant to the girl. He didn't bother turning back to look at John, if Ami wanted him to stop. Fine. He'll stop. But he better stop looking his way before he kicks his ass for being an annoying prick.]

You mind moving along now, we're watching the movie. [Only not. We were about to make out. Stop interrupting.]

[Kanda, that is so rude. Which somehow faintly bothers her, directed at someone important to her, though she's never complained about it any other time. Usually, she's right there doing the same along with Kanda.

In fact, she doesn't say a word about the commotion they must be causing, or how disruptive it must be for anyone else watching the film.]

I can't concentrate as easily with that much noise.

[One angry Spartan was about to reply when one snarky senshi does before him. That is enough not to reply on where could he move so he would not bother him or Ami, especially.

Silently, he sits by the side of Ami, right now unbothered by any armor save for his helmet, finally staring at the screen instead of Ami or Kanda.

With effort.]

[John, Kanda has a friend. He's a friend because of Kanda calls him anything else he throws a fit but you remind him of him. No, he doesn't wear a stupid armor the way you do but he should, Allen is one ugly bastard after all with all that white hair...

For a moment he sat there wondering if he had somehow summoned Allen and got John instead knowing Ami would probably have stabbed Allen before he did. He shrugged into his shair and lifted his legs up again over the backrest of the row in front of them. He hadn't let Ami's hand go, however, and now that they had this parantel type, he wasn't goingto get lucky. It was fun while it lasted. He brought it up to his lips and brushed it lightly in apology. Watch your damned movie, Ami. He'll just see how long it takes to lose his patience. ~~German pissed him off, it reminded him of that damned inspector and the leech he followed around like a damned lap dog.~~]

[To Ami, German was reminiscent of her medical studies, and her constant wish to travel - the birth of so many of her dreams of France, or America, or even Space. She found it exciting.

The tenderness of Kanda's simple gesture took her off guard, but she found herself keenly aware now of how many people were in the theatre, and how many might be watching them without her noticing, not to mention the obvious palpable tension between Kanda and John. Luckily, the darkness covered not only the act, but her suddenly-coloring cheeks. She wished she could turn off that habit, but it was a physical reaction over the years.

She left her hand and Kanda's joined together anyway. Occasionally, she leaned towards either him or John to give a brief, low-voiced explanation of what was happening in the film.]

[His visor only slightly moves to Kanda as he rests over the front row -almost doing more when his lips touch Ami's fingers-. The translation, however kind from Mizuno's part, was unnecessary. The MJOLNIR allowed to translate audio from Covenant language into english text, and it wasn't a problem to do the same with other Earth languages.

However, he doesn't stop Ami. It was an attempt to keep her busy, and her boyfriend with distance. Sadly for Kanda, Spartans were also trained in the arts of Zen meditation.

In the silent, unmoving language of the Master Chief as he watches the film, it reads: "I can do this all day, jackass."]

[Zen meditation? You're talking to his era's best swordsman, of course he can meditate. But why the hell should he, after a crap-filled life and all that pain, he was allowed some happiness. And here,although public displays of affection were never his thing, Ami had planted the seed of curiosity.

Why were they such prudes in public. Oh, right. Because they're good people with somewhat decent morals? I mean, they both treat people like crap, they might as well have respect for each other. And John... apparently.]

[Right now, they were probably prudes because of the giant man on Ami's other side who just might stop being a silent wall if they weren't.

Or because Ami hadn't quite outgrown that embarrassment over these topics in public. They were things for privacy, and closed doors. And definitely not in front of people who'd definitely think something of it. ~~There was a better chance before John came. Sorry, Kanda.~~

As a small blessing, even the tiny lights along the side of the stairs suddenly winked out, though there didn't seem to be anything wrong since the movie was still going. Ami looked just a trifle too innocent.]

[John is sorry, as he cannot hear Kanda over Halsey kidnapping him when he was six and decades of war while being sodded over by his own side. Contrary to Ami's guess, he was more like a gargoyle watching over the maiden the impatient bastard should not touch.

It's a slight change in the environment, but he can guess who did it.

No. fortunately for Kanda, he is not turning. But the walls have ears, and there are no walls.]

[For once, Kanda is not on the same page here. He noticed the lights go out but he figured it was just due in part to the crappy theater. He was staring at the screen but hardly paying much attention, his mind was off somewhere else. Mostly probably still expecting Allen. Or Lavi. ~~Never mind, Lavi is still missing.~~

Good thing too, right John? Who would ever guess the one breaking all the rules was the pretty girl still holding onto his arm? Kanda wouldn't be surprised, but still.]

[Ami would bid her own life story, but this is not a support group for tragic and crappy fates. It's a movie theatre. A dark movie theatre. Perfect for sneaking a kiss. Kanda, use your brain.

For all that she was most definitely behind the event (and it was causing a bit of a stir, she noticed with satisfaction), she gave every semblance of paying attention to the film instead, except for one comment.]

I think it's better like this.

[His visor only slightly turns to Ami -- and it does not leave her. John does not grow to like the intention he realizes Ami had for Kanda.

As the statues of revered saints judging a sinful priest at the altar, he stands still. And for now hopes the public would use the film's light for guidance. Or cellphones.]

[Don't worry about people, John. One or two that fall and trip and break something means there will be less people out whenever Kanda and Ami decide to go on another date.

He turned to Ami seeing John tilted his head towards her. He figured the guy was as confused as him.]

What are you talking about, are they finally going to kill the priest?
