Mingle Post: Movie Night

Where: anywhere there might be movies showing: theatres, dvd rooms, homes, drive-ins. also, movie settings.

It's an old, old, story: falling asleep and dreaming of that movie that was playing until just a few moments ago. Maybe taking the part of the hero, maybe the dastardly villain, or maybe even just some side character there to fill a purpose in the plot and no more. It might be a dashing adventure, a passionate drama, a sickly sweet romance - anything at all. But it's playing out right now.

Or maybe the movie is playing up on the screen. There's a comfortable couch at a DVD Room, or a seat at the theatre (amid a crowd, or alone with that special someone at the back of the room), or even just a comfortable chair in a warm, cozy house.
Whatever it may be, movies are the order of the night.

[Ami would bid her own life story, but this is not a support group for tragic and crappy fates. It's a movie theatre. A dark movie theatre. Perfect for sneaking a kiss. Kanda, use your brain.

For all that she was most definitely behind the event (and it was causing a bit of a stir, she noticed with satisfaction), she gave every semblance of paying attention to the film instead, except for one comment.]

I think it's better like this.

[His visor only slightly turns to Ami -- and it does not leave her. John does not grow to like the intention he realizes Ami had for Kanda.

As the statues of revered saints judging a sinful priest at the altar, he stands still. And for now hopes the public would use the film's light for guidance. Or cellphones.]

[decaying]

[Don't worry about people, John. One or two that fall and trip and break something means there will be less people out whenever Kanda and Ami decide to go on another date.

He turned to Ami seeing John tilted his head towards her. He figured the guy was as confused as him.]

What are you talking about, are they finally going to kill the priest?

[waterfell]

[Kill the priest?

Oh. Well, she'd said she wanted them to pay attention to the movie...]

Not that. The darkness suits the theatre better.

[This time he looks directly at Ami.]

Not for the rest.

[Sadly, he seems to understand Ami's intent. Darkness meant privacy, which meant privacy with the second person he liked the least in the dreamworld, but he had only one bad experience with Tseng, and he suspected Ami wasn't as attracted to Lethe.]

[decaying]

[Calm down, John. Kanda knows how to take care of your little girl. She wouldn't still be sticking around if he didn't. She knew what she wanted and Kanda liked that about her, it was one of her many special traits.]

Screw the rest. [You clearly don't realize no one else matters but Ami. And himself. And maybe you. Only because Ami wanted you in her life for some damned reason. He nudged her towards the popcorn.] My hands a little occupied. [A.K.A. feed me.]

[waterfell]

[Ami made a dismissive gesture noticeable even in the dark. She was equally unconcerned with 'the rest'; she'd made the theatre the way she wanted it, and that was good enough. Better than good enough.

As if to prove this, she held a single piece of popcorn between her fingers, and held it up towards Kanda's mouth, just far enough away that he'd have to lean forward to take it.

Work for it.]

[Don't do that, you bastard. Ami won't--

He stands frozen for a second.

Ami has betrayed her adoptive dream father, who considers her a lady worthy of much more than a jerk ass that complies and fosters sinful acts. If he could give Ami a look of exasperation behind that visor, he would.

With no other choice but to help the rest, he glares at Kanda for a second. Before he turns on the flashlight of his helmet, and sets it on the seat in front of him to aim for the stairs.

You wanted to know how he looks like under the helmet? Tough luck. Tradition must be kept. It's dark in his direction thanks to you, Kanda.]

[Your not!daughter is definitely a lady. And sinful acts? Have you forgotten what era he's from? You think he was the one who proposed the business about premarital sex? Of course not, but he wasn't a sucker either, how could you expect him to tell her no? It's not like he wanted anyone else. They understood each other, complimented and balanced each other, what else could they need?

When she offered him the popcorn, he heaved a small sigh. Of course she would make him work for it. He leaned forward and picked it with his tongue. Popcorn is awesome, there's no popcorn in his era. It's crunchy and salty and it sticks to wet surfaces. Just. Awesome.]

So he's a soldier and a walking 'emergency exit' sign. Don't go flashing that thing at me.

[Ami certainly wasn't here to make a spectacle of her private life. Which meant she hadn't expected that tiny flicker of Kanda's tongue against her fingers. (He was bold. And what he wanted was her.) Luckily, the dark hid the color in her cheeks. It did less to hide her swift glance at John, as if worried he'd have noticed.]

[John intends not to flash the flashlight at him, for her adoptive daughter would become a collateral victim.

Unfortunately, as it was Ami's choice on the matter, and even he knows he does not have control over them, the silhouette of his face turns forward in disapproval, watching the film.]

[You two were being so paranoid. Kanda was eating popcorn. Nothing more. He leaned against his woman and got comfortable again when some guy not too far off from where they were currently sitting reached his last straw. Apparently the talking and the light coming from the Chief's visor was more than he could bare. He turned around and waved his hand like some idiot.]

Hey, jackass! Turn your damned cell phone off! [Because clearly only cell phones gave that much light in the first place. Kanda wasn't going to have any shit on his date night. He had enough to put up with having John around.]

Hey, sit your ass down and shut up! [You don't talk to my not!father-in-law that way. Only I do.]

Está bien. Kanda me hace reír.

[Ami was becoming sorely tempted to turn the entire place into slumberland. She could do it. The mental image of those loud, blustering humans sitting behind them, all nodding gently over their seats, amused her.

It would also be quieter and let her actually, in fact, watch the film in peace. But the time for that was probably long gone by now.]

It's almost finished by now.

[The mature adult among the three sets a hand in front of Kanda, in a gesture to let him work on it. The man remained furious for a moment.

Until John suddenly stands to almost seven feet tall, shrouded in the dark. The theater turns silent as they look at him with the sudden motion.]

Do you want these people to trip?

[Politely. But nowhere devoid of presence.]

[decaying]

[Yeah, John. You probably should have done that before. He couldn't help but chuckle. The guy was huge after all. Bet the poor man wasn't expecting that. He just sat himself down.]

You should have done that sooner. Damn loud mouths in the front.

[waterfell]

[Ami's smile brightens, too.]

Better! Shall we watch the rest quietly now? [There's an edge to the cheery voice that suggests this is a very good idea for her companions as well as for the rest of the theatre.

Seriously. Can't anyone here be a polite audience for a couple hours?]

[Slowly, John sits back down in silence. The movie was about to be finished. This time, his sight focuses back on the front. He still keeps an eye over the rest of the public to ensure no one gets injured.]

[decaying]

[The movie does end up finishing and Kanda was none the wiser. It was stupid. Culture his ass. He stretched in his seat and stood up way too eager to get the hell out of here. He gave Ami his hand.]

I thought this movie would never end. Let's go back to your place.

[waterfell]

[Well... she'd seen most of the movie. And while it had been a mischievous impulse to make them watch it, too... they had. They'd stayed to see it with her, even if both clearly hadn't liked it and one was vocally complaining.

She probably owed them a favor. She turned to Kanda.]

Let's go.

[His sight turns back to Kanda the second he hears that. He stands, but this moment, he waits for Ami to stand up, as well. He grabs his helmet.

Here's a reminder, Kanda. He's going to Ami's place, and he's already mastered the art of cockblocking.]

[Kanda knew John was probably going to go with them but whatever. He'd probably stay a few minutes at Ami's house before leaving anyway. This date was ruined anyway. The minute Ami was back into the isle, he took her hand and led her off.]

Enjoyed yourself? [Because he sure didn't.]

[waterfell]

I wanted to see that film for a long time. It's been publicized after its entry into one of the international film festivals.

[Not what Kanda meant at all, probably.]

[John was not a person of art, but he understood the film somewhat. While he mildly appreciated it, he doesn't think of himself as a know-how on art.

He remains silent. He knows what Kanda meant, but that's why he's here.]

[So John knew what a guy thinks. Big deal. Get over yourself. He shot John a glare before continuing to walk, arm around Ami as they finally hit the street.]

I don't know what that is.

They're a festival for new movies to be shown. Some of them are very famous, and movies that earn recognition or prizes there become very well-known, too.
