At first, she had been confused, even a bit frightened. The last thing she truly remembered was falling finally into that deep sleep against Kai's shoulder. She had finally given up, had stopped fighting the sensation and had relaxed against him with the memories of blue water and her family burning within.
It had been empty and dark. She wasn't aware of anything besides that blackness. Saya hadn't really known what to expect past that sleep. The sleep seemed like such an end to her, a final note to end it all. What like she could enjoy if she could only stay awake, how she could watch her nieces grow... it was all too bitter to consider there being anything within or beyond that long sleep.
Maybe she pictured it like falling asleep every night. She would simply wake up one day and the world would be changed yet again. Soon though she was aware that that image of sleep was completely wrong. She was
aware. Even if there was nothing but blackness around her at first, she was aware of the blackness and of the empty void.
It had taken her weeks to learn what was happening and more to finally begin to construct what other dreamers would fall into now.
It was an amazingly limited world as Saya slowly learned how to build things up in a dream. For now, dreamers would be greeted with a wide expanse of sandy beach, a perpetually calm sea slowly lapping at the shore now and then. The beach simply stretched on for as far as the eye could see in both directions and was absolutely deserted.
The only thing on the beach save for rocks and the lapping ocean appeared to be a shack. It was actually a
beach restaurant of sorts, something of a replacement for her father's Okinawan restaurant for now, this little creation modeled after one of the few beach restaurants Saya had been to while awake.
There are even decorative lights still for when the sun did set.For now, Saya could be found sitting outside of the restaurant, watching the waves lap at the beach. Could she really build whatever she wanted? ... Then wasn't the question
what she wanted?
