[Mingle Post] Inception

Who: Everyone! Open to All
What: "Inception" mingle logs
When: any time
Where: dream-built settings: totems, building dreams, projections

Entering someone's dream means entering the most private, secret, and vulnerable part of their mind. It means the chance of influencing them, it means the risk of losing yourself. It means building up fantasies, and it means watching them explode when the dream crumbles.

Hold on to your totem, explore, and protect yourself.

(ooc: This is a post to keep threads together for the Inception prompt. Separate posts or additional subthreads are also fine, and this one is optional. More information on the theme can be found here.)

[Mingle Post] Adventure Classic

Who: Everyone! Open to All
What: Adventure classic mingle logs
When: Any time. Most probably fantasy middle ages.
Where: Cities, castles, caves, towns, dungeons, forests, temples, lairs, camps... Your classic fantasy setting.

Some of you might be familiar with these dreams. Castles set upon hills watching over towns and kingdoms, dragons soaring the skies; and you, of course, as an adventurer armed with sword, spellbook, or cape, and exploring all of these places. There are towns to save, hills and forests to explore, bands of orcs and goblins to stop, and evil to be fought.

With all of these adventures? There is treasure. There is always treasure.

Caution goes to the the unwary adventurer that wanders around the woods, or the one that dwells deep within the caves and dungeons of kings and tyrants still sleeping. In these caverns and palaces left long gone for centuries lies gold, just as well as beasts and monsters that will guard these places, and don't think for a moment these places will not be filled with traps or undead just as well.

(ooc: This is a post to keep threads together for the Adventure Classic theme. Separate posts are also fine, and this one is optional. Feel free to have your characters retain their role, or assume new ones, for the adventures you will toss them at.)

Adventure Classic: Dungeon Crawling

From her vantage point, the entire countryside opened up before the priestess Mercury. Mountainous terrain spread from there to the horizon, dotted by caves and carpeted with forest. The broad vista took in a pristine landscape.

The beauty of the scene was marred only by the keening and noising of what might be animals, They sounded thick, and primal, and not as distant as a traveler might have preferred. Mercury faced in the direction of the noise anyway, noting it carefully, before she turned to return to her camp. More distant still, too distant to be seen, was her destination.

There was a long way to go yet, and there were many obstacles between her and her goal. Yet she had taken on this journey and quest willingly. The sign that her plans were favored were her healing powers. She was confident, in this bright morning, of her path.

❀ Fifth Illusion ❀ Kanda Yu

"I won't ask you again. Try to pay attention this time."

There was a girl chained to a concrete pillar in a dimly lit area struggling to catch her breath. Her clothes disheveled, she seemed to have gotten into a confrontation with the man in front of her. She was a pretty girl with bright blue eyes, her cheeks were flushed and her full lips were swollen. Kanda had done a good number on her by then. "Is that any way to treat a woman?" She scoffed, giving the pacing exorcist a glare.

"I'm starting to lose my patience.

Truth be told, Kanda had lost it hours ago when he first placed those sealing chains on her and stabbed her a few times with his sword. Her limbs were almost useless by now and whatever threat this level four akuma had was long gone. It had been following him, stalking him for the right moment to kill him but Kanda had known. He had been waiting for the thing to strike and when it did underneath the pretense of a very frisky brothel girl, Kanda had attacked. Normally, he would have killed an akuma and moved on but this one was different, it had been wearing something very peculiar and Kanda wanted answers.

"Where did you get this headband." He asked again, bringing it to her face as he grabbed a hold of several locks of hair as he forced her to look upward at him. She yelped but the only thing that came from her lips was a very metallic evil laugh. The akuma was getting angry and it was starting to transform. Kanda was unphased.

"Silly boy, why are you chasing a red-head, you should try a blond instead."

Kanda brought Mugen against her hip, cutting into her side before grabbing at her neck and choking her. The akuma cried and shrieked trying to free itself from the impale but it only helped in making the human exterior fade only leaving the monster that the girl truly was. Kanda grinned.

"Now that the mask is off, maybe you'll start getting a little more serious."

"I'll end you, exorcist."

"Try again."

He grabbed at his swords handle and twisted it deeper into the akuma. It choked, the wound starting to calcify and chip. Kanda had gone too far, the beast was dying and he hadn't gotten the information he wanted. Again. How long was this going to go on for? All of these things following him were clearly mocking him. The akuma squirmed as it took it's last breaths, a last effort of it's pitiful existence had it scratching and tugging at his coat but to no luck. Kanda was as cold as a gravestone. He let the remains crumble to the floor as he sheathed his blade and stared at the lump of ash disappointingly clutching the green bandana in his right hand.

"... I'm sorry, Lavi." I'm trying. I'm trying everything I can...

The mellow dance hall had an old timey feel to it: wooden paneling, sweethearts dancing slowly with each other as the gentle music of a big band song played. Steph was standing to the side, searching over the slow moving couples to see if she could find...if she could find him. But something was off. She knew she wasn't in the 40s anymore. She knew that. She was wearing her new Captain America uniform. One that Coulson designed. Yet...yet the setting looked just like home. And there was hope in her chest that Bucky was just really late.

No. This was a dream. It had to be.

bunny the first ☾ office AU dream?????

[such a lovely day. partly cloudy, warm, gorgeous. the park is full of people enjoying the weather; families having picnics and playing games, salarymen and women taking their lunch and gabbing, sitting neatly on benches.

the person of focus at the moment is of the latter persuasion. the quality of her suit denotes how high up she must be. everything about her is professional and conservative business attire, yet with enough fashionable flair to be...cute. swirls and designs in her reading glasses, a subtle pattern in the cuffs and lapels of her blazer... Even her clearly expensive ballpoint pen is a blushing red with feminine details, as she scribbles away on a notepad and flips through papers in her briefcase (is that a pink bunny keychain?).

Her hair, even, is perfectly curled and styled...but it's...pink.

Everything is absolutely

perfectly

normal.

The warehouse had probably been sealed off long ago. Already it had begun to fall into a state of disrepair. Sand bags, empty boxes and other supplies were littered about. Abandoned, locked away and forgotten, no longer anything that a person would care to look for. The evening sky, the sun fading fast, made it feel somehow older than it was. Like a relic from long ago. It looks so fragile. The pillars upholding it might just collapse, the beams above might fold in on themselves and bury her.

Even so, it was the perfect place for Kyoko to work though. Unwanted places, unwanted people, they all bred curses and those curses drew out Witches. So, she carried her Soul Gem in one hand as she walked along the concrete floors. The other was occupied with a piece of taiyaki. Kyoko didn't even glance at the cans as she kicked them aside, the papers as they crumbled under her boots. Her mind was wholly occupied by her cause for coming here.

But that cause was no long showing itself. Certainly, since she was still here, somehow still alive, that person should be too. Somewhere, in this place, she was there just moments ago--ah, did she feel a familiar magical signature just then? But it was gone too soon and she was left with only more wandering to look forward to.

"Tch. This is really pissing me off, y'know," she said, to no one in particular. She kicked away a can, more forcefully now.

❀ Fourth Illusion ❀ Kanda Yu

Kanda had been expecting some animosity on his return. No one really liked a traitor.

To his surprise, it had all been the exact opposite. The minute Kanda had walked through the main gates of the Chinese branch, he was greeted with sobs, tears, and exclamations about how he was never allowed to die or not!die the way he had again. Komui had taken him into his arms and Lenalee had sobbed and followed suite. After everyone was sure Kanda's hands couldn't reach for his sword he had been overrun by a dog pile. They told him he was home. Kanda knew better.

The only reason he had returned was because he had to. Being an exorcist meant he had to do what the innocence living inside of him wanted: kill akuma. If he went off that plan he would be corrupted and then he would become a fallen. He'd lose his mind and die in excruciating pain. Kanda had things to do before he decided to bite the dust.

I have someone to find...

After the scientists and the section leaders had their turn welcoming Kanda back, they left him to his own devices. He hadn't eaten in days so the first place he went to was Jerry's kitchen in the cafeteria. The guy was so annoyingly animated he figured it was going to take a lot of patience to deal with him. He hadn't even gotten near the cue line when he could all ready hear Jerry talking.

"Well if it isn't my new favorite General!" Several finders turned around and gave Kanda a hard look. "Where have you been? I've ordered all this soba and you haven't been here to eat it all."

Kanda gave him a weak smile and ordered his usual before sitting in the farthest corner away from everyone. He was a general now. No doubt about it.

*001* | Skyline

When she closed her eyes and sleep claimed the corpse the soul of Madoka Kaname thus controlled, she dreamed of better days.

What precisely? Anything one would think of: playing alongside her friends in a schoolyard, or even singing together in a too-small Karaoke box, the familiar sounds of badly-recorded J-Pop fluttering in the air. Madoka's heart often fluttered from event to event, grasping for the normalcy she'd left behind, and yet at the same time embracing the life she'd chosen to lead with no regrets.

Tonight was no different.

The school roof wasn't the most comfortable place to lie down, but Madoka cared little. She lied flat on her back, bentou long finished and neatly set aside. The sky was almost an endless expanse above her, with barely any clouds.

The sun didn't even shine in her eyes.

With a sigh, she closed her eyes. It was so warm. She could just lie here for a while. Nobody would mind, she was sure...

the three lights.

The sound of an expertly played piano fills the air, its tune something akin to the rushing wind... And then the sounds of a violin, its strings lovingly caressed, taking the listener down, somehow, to the depths of the deepest seas... The lights come on in a flash -- its a concert.

"It's Haruka!" someone exclaimed.

"She's so cool!" Usagi agreed, unable to take her eyes off of the pair. The music that had just filled the concert hall drifted away, as the musicians took their bows and accepted the applause that washed over from the crowds, just as someone screamed...

"It's the Three Lights!"

"Huh? Where?!" Usagi cried, looking around furiously, "I can't see! Where's my binoculars?!" No way was she going to miss the biggest concert of the century!! The Three Lights, the hugest pop group to come to Tokyo!

*001* | In Memoriam

"Hey."

Nothing but a simple tombstone, engraved with nothing but a "Z", stared back at him. Not that X expected it could talk; a slab of stone under a large blossoming apple tree didn't make for good conversation, he wagered. Still, there was a comfort in small, silent things, from the simple grassy field that made up their meeting place to the hilt of the beam sabre that sat next to the bouquet of irises that lied down next to it.

It wasn't meant to be an extravagant place full of pomp and ceremony: the clear sunny sky, endless grass (short of the single tree), and lack of any sort of building made that abundantly clear.

"It's been a while since I've seen you...sorry about that. I've been busy and it's been hard to get away, even to sleep. You know how it is."

X chuckled, scratching his head.

"But we're starting to home in on the last of the straggler groups still holding onto Sigma's ideals. We might even win the war soon, and then...well. Things will be peaceful again. Maybe I'll be able to go back to being a B-class, huh?"

Maybe. Maybe he'd even be able to wear his favorite human clothes, like he was wearing now: blue upon blue, with even more blue. Right now, he couldn't have even worn these around the base with as little free time as he had, but here, it was all right. In dreams, everything was safe, including prattling about at a gravestone in the middle of nowhere like he was a character in a human drama.

Well. He was alone.

There was no harm in creating a grave for an old friend that didn't exist in the real world, just as there was no harm in voicing his thoughts to him.

After all, it wasn't as though anyone could hear him.

✹ 001 ✹ systems overload

Living in John's helmet wasn't always a bad thing. He knew how to take care of a girl, how to make her feel special. If she could choose a place out of all the locations she was consciously aware of(and for an A.I. those were many) she was sure that there was no other safer place than that little slot in the back of his head. She felt close to him when they were together, it was the most optimal way to securely ensure she was aiding him in everything he could possibly need.

When she wasn't analyzing enemy comm-links or checking his vitals, she was watching. Being an A.I. definitely had it's cons but what she lost with her inability to touch, she gained with her ability to see. Everything John had ever lived she had shared and sometimes she wondered what was beyond her confinements.

Perhaps it was why her dream had manifested into a world of color and sky. Despite the danger they always seemed to be in, these new worlds they explored were majestic. Chief had gone through jungles, mountains, flat lands, and he never stopped to watch. But she had, she remembered the way the jungles were stiffed with heat, how she had to overwork his armor to keep him in adequate homeostasis or how wind would blow and make all those leaves dance and shimmer in the sunlight. Cortana heaved a sigh as the wind seemed to pick up, some invisible force pushing her off her center and she stumbled forward blue locks coming over her eyes as she brought a hand up to brush them away in shock.

"What are you doing, Cortana." She could feel and for a girl who had never felt any sensation, this was very overwhelming. There was no control, she couldn't stop the wind even if she tried. She was exposed. "Look at you. Over thinking again. Analyzing all those definitions and descriptions and this is what you accomplish?" But why not? After all they've been through, "After everything I've suffered-"

"Stop. Just stop thinking."

The wind wasn't stopping, truth be told, she wasn't sure she liked it. It was pushing her, she could feel it. Her logic told her that this was caused by millions and millions of atoms that were pressing against her nude form and she couldn't do anything but grip her head and keep the voices under control. She had to stop thinking but it was useless and this overwhelming sensation was making her anxious.

"I-I can't...." Her voice quivered responding to her own voices as she dares lift up her eyes only to have the wind blow against them. She gives a shocked gasped as her hands came up to cover her face.

"S-stop it, Cortana!" Because clearly, this is all in her head and she's torturing herself.

At The Onsen

The only sound in the steamy onsen was the water streaming from the fountain, coupled with the soft sound of bamboo making contact with rock. Of the many things Mercury enjoyed, this seemed to be farthest off her list: hot, steamy, and very un-Mercury. But yet she found herself drawn to it, perhaps like a moth to a flame. It reminded her of Mars' own hot springs, though those were too hot, even for her. But these? The Japanese had truly made an art form of them, and even the soldier of ice and intellect found pleasure in the activity.

Bottle of sake with matching cup sat on a floating tray, Mercury taking a sip, head slowly tilting back as she downed the drink. Her cheeks may have been a wee bit flushed, but she was still aware enough to defend herself if need be. Slender form was wrapped in a towel, shoulders poking up over the water. Resting her head back, she set her cup down on the tray, enjoying the soak, for now.

Mingle Post: Movie Night

Who: Everyone! Open to All
What: "Movie Night" mingle log
When: any time agreed upon by the players
Where: anywhere there might be movies showing: theatres, dvd rooms, homes, drive-ins. also, movie settings.

It's an old, old, story: falling asleep and dreaming of that movie that was playing until just a few moments ago. Maybe taking the part of the hero, maybe the dastardly villain, or maybe even just some side character there to fill a purpose in the plot and no more. It might be a dashing adventure, a passionate drama, a sickly sweet romance - anything at all. But it's playing out right now.

Or maybe the movie is playing up on the screen. There's a comfortable couch at a DVD Room, or a seat at the theatre (amid a crowd, or alone with that special someone at the back of the room), or even just a comfortable chair in a warm, cozy house.
Whatever it may be, movies are the order of the night.

○ 04 ○ Little Surprises

[Christmas may have come and gone, but this dream is still full of unwrapped presents. They're everywhere, all in big boxes, lined up on all the walls, stacked in the corners and, of course, piled high under the brightly lit tree in the center of the room. Though the soft glow of this tree somehow illuminates the entire room, you better watch your step!

Oh, yes, because it's not only brightly wrapped boxes you have to worry about stepping on. You see, most of these presents are for a certain little boy. That boy has already made a fair dent in his pile of gifts...and there's a reason the boxes are so big! Each one, so far, has contained a small baby animal. They aren't normal animals, though; some look like kittens or little flowers, or strange bunnies or flying foals!

Or the puppy...kitten...SOMETHING that refuses to leave Sora's side. Or stop licking his face, for that matter!

But that's far from all; there are a whole bunch of these strange baby creatures wandering around, though none are fully grown (and some of the aquatic ones even seem to be floating through the air, though there are plenty of water tanks around, too...).

They seem to be looking for friends...and how in the world is Sora going to take care of them all by himself? Maybe he needs some help!

Besides, look around. There may be a present or two for you in here.]

Opening Night at Club Yaso-Inaba.

Souji leaned on the balcony overlooking the nightclub, listening to the rhythmic bass thrum of the music, as deep and regular as the sound of a train. When he looked under the edge of his glasses, he could see the dry-ice fog swirling on the dance floor, but all the patrons of the club had a pair of their own, handed out by the mascot-suited bouncer at the door, so everything was okay. Even if the strobing lights sometimes made their eyes look yellow, he knew everything was going smoothly -- the DJ kept looking up from his booth to flash a smile and a thumbs-up, as if he could hear Souji's thoughts beamed directly into his headphones.

The waitress was busy, consulting her big black album of drink recipes to advise the patrons on what to order, and behind her the bartender continuously mixed and re-mixed drink ingredients, producing a multicolored array of cocktails, each in their own specially shaped glass.

Souji looked down, realizing that he was turning a chopstick in his hand, marked red on one end. He gave it a smile.

He was King of the Club... and it was good to be the King.

oo5 ≈ ❝ soldier of love and justice! ❞ | slightly backdated to november theme!

It was a night like any other. The sun had long set as "Masumi," on her way home from the one of Juuban's photo labs -- had spotted a youma draining the life force from an innocent bystander! And obviously she couldn't have that! As she held her hand in the air, she transformed into the sailor suited soldier of love and justice... Sailor Mnemosyne!

She sprinted forward, confident that she would reach the scene in time before it was too late. Jumping up to the roof with the moonlight shining at her back, she called out bravely -- "Hold it right there!" Striking a pose, she sized up the monster below, and took note of the captive in its grip. "Picking on those who want to reminisce about loved ones is disgraceful! One of the most precious things is recalling times of spent with friends and family! In the name of the river of memories, Mnemosyne, Sailor Mnemosyne won't forgive you!"

( 'syne's new career just so happens to be that of a legit sailorsenshi!! replies as allies, enemies or even those mistaken as the 'youma' are welcome ;] )

(no subject)

Minako never once regretted the choices she's made in life. She knew that the moment she accepted Artemis' companionship, and subsequently the transformation pen he gave her, that her life would never be the same.

She's never looked back once.

The friends she's made, the people she's met, the countless number of lives they've saved, it was all worth it. It was well worth the sacrifices she's made for herself, to protect the ones she loves and will continue to love. She knows that years from the, the world will flourish and part of it is because of her.

Even still, there's still part of her that wonders what might have been. What could have been, if she had said no all those years ago. Especially tonight, as she stands outside a sold-out concert arena to her favorite idol, ear pressed against one of the doors so she could listen in. Could that have ever been her? There were days where she liked to dream it was.

Rudely interrupted by someone telling her she couldn't loiter and listen, she stuck her tongue out at their retreating back.

"Just you wait! That'll be me in there one day!"

Probably not, but she still had visions of bright lights and adoring fans. She sighed, contently, and then promptly pressed her ear against the door again.
