001; Wutai
On the mountain of Da Chao sits a lone girl, her legs swinging off the ledge as she contemplates the town below.
It's her home - Wutai, a once proud nation that has been reduced to nothing more than a cheesy tourist attraction. By none other than her father, a man she doesn't exactly get along with in the best of times.
Something's off though.
Yuffie squints as she studies the town, telling herself her eyes must be deceiving her.
Usually there are people strolling through the town, children playing tag in the streets. The ones who had recently been infected with Geostigma are recovering, and there is a jovial air about the town. Now, though, there is no sign of life. Not even a stray dog roaming through, begging for scraps.
This just isn't right, and Yuffie has to investigate.
Standing up, she brushes the dirt off her legs, then plants her fists at her hips.
"Only one person can get to this bottom of this mess!"
She pauses without looking back, shifting her weight as if she wants to fidget.
"You can come too. Having an extra pair of eyes wouldn't hurt," she says this with a little hesitation. The truth is, she's a little bit worried at the absence of people, and could use a little support as she tries to find them.

She turns away from the view this height provides, to the girl beside her, at those bold words; more, at being included and asked for help so naturally. It deflates her first urge to shrug off the responsibility and say it's none of her business, she isn't from this world, or planet, or city.
Instead, Ami nods, but fails to move.]
Wait.
[She takes out a small device, a hand-held computer.]
This should be able to track any energy signatures still present nearby. It'll be easier to find them from there.

Studying her, stares at the blue hair, momentarily distracted. She can't for the life of her remember anyone who had blue hair. Reno's was an obnoxious red, but that was as close as she'd gotten to brightly colored hair.
The device starts to beep, and Yuffie inches closer to inspect it over the girl's shoulder, curious.]
What's that mean? Is someone down there?
[It abruptly stops beeping and Yuffie leans back a bit, giving her companion an expectant look.]
no subject
It disappeared.
[She doesn't suggest it might be an error. She has faith in her technology and her powers that she lacks in people.]
However, they might still be just outside the range of that search. Do you intend to go there?
no subject
She'd dealt with her share of strange happenings in her life, and this was definitely making her top ten list.]
Of course. My people are missing, and if someone's hurt them in any way, I'll give them a smackdown like they've never felt before.
[Looking over at the girl, she nods a head toward the tiny computer.]
That thing tell you what direction it was? Was it in town?
no subject
It was that direction.
[She indicates the way, but makes no movement to head there, still indecisive towards how involved to become.]
no subject
She pauses, looking toward the girl before realizing she actually didn't know her.]
Who are you anyway?
take CARE of themselves /kicks missing-word typo
The Soldier of the Flame of Knowledge, Mercury.
[When she wakes up, she'll be left to wonder just why so many of her dreams lately have revolved around turning the water that flows inside her to this burning fire.]
No biggie, I typed 'town' in my last tag instead of 'tower'. :C
[Flame of Knowledge? That isn't an introduction Yuffie's come across before, but she's big on intros. She can appreciate a good one, and that one had a little kick to it. Giving Mercury a little salute, she grins.]
And I'm Yuffie Kisragi, Wutai's very own Ninja Princess. So are ya gonna help me, or stand up here all day with your little computer?
no subject
If you're saying you'd rather waste your energy by going into it blindly, go ahead. I'll finish and do whatever I decide.
no subject
Not a lot of time to plan here. For all I know, whatever's happened down there could still be happening. Sitting up here and twiddling my thumbs won't help anyone.
no subject
Alright. I'll come.
[She's curious herself. There's a mystery here, one that might be worth solving.]
no subject
Who knew what materia Godo left lying around?]
Okay, your computer picked up something in the pagoda, but I bet Godo the Senile left some materia at home. You never know when it'll come in handy!
[With that, she starts toward her home, mentally crossing her fingers for something awesome. A mastered Knights of the Round would be very useful.]
no subject
Lead us there.
no subject
It doesn't take them to get there, and she keeps her eyes glued to their surroundings, just in case she could catch even a small glimpse of someone. She doesn't, and by the time she's at her front door she kicks it in, frustrated.]
I better find something here, or Godo is going to be super sorry.

This is all I could find. A piece of useless Sense materia. Where the hell is my Leviathan?
no subject
I don't know materia. What is it?
[Leviathon, of course, she can guess from myth: some form of sea creature's power harnessed in another of these glowing auras.
More importantly:]
How is it used?
no subject
Little balls made from the Lifestream. Gives all kinds of cool abilities, like magic or summons. I won Leviathan from my father when he did that stupid fight on me in the pagoda.
no subject
But this isn't the time for that.]
What does this one you don't like, do?
no subject
[Tosses the little ball in the air, catching it before debating on just living it in the empty house.]
It senses enemy stats. How much health they have, stuff like that. Which I guess is useful, but I like ones that pack a punch.
no subject
If you have no interest in it, give it to me.
no subject
Sure thing, take it. [She gives the room they are in a sweeping glare, bouncing on her toes a bit with repressed energy.]
We should go to the pagoda. That's where your little handy computer scanned something.
no subject
You know the quickest route there. Go ahead.
no subject
The chocobo gives an indignant WARK in her direction, and flounces off. Yuffie stares at the bird, completely stunned. ]
What the hell? You saw that right?
[She popped up, not even bothering to brush the dirt off herself.]
You saw that stupid bird, right?!
no subject
I saw you trip and fall and embarrass yourself.
