001; Wutai
On the mountain of Da Chao sits a lone girl, her legs swinging off the ledge as she contemplates the town below.
It's her home - Wutai, a once proud nation that has been reduced to nothing more than a cheesy tourist attraction. By none other than her father, a man she doesn't exactly get along with in the best of times.
Something's off though.
Yuffie squints as she studies the town, telling herself her eyes must be deceiving her.
Usually there are people strolling through the town, children playing tag in the streets. The ones who had recently been infected with Geostigma are recovering, and there is a jovial air about the town. Now, though, there is no sign of life. Not even a stray dog roaming through, begging for scraps.
This just isn't right, and Yuffie has to investigate.
Standing up, she brushes the dirt off her legs, then plants her fists at her hips.
"Only one person can get to this bottom of this mess!"
She pauses without looking back, shifting her weight as if she wants to fidget.
"You can come too. Having an extra pair of eyes wouldn't hurt," she says this with a little hesitation. The truth is, she's a little bit worried at the absence of people, and could use a little support as she tries to find them.

[Tosses the little ball in the air, catching it before debating on just living it in the empty house.]
It senses enemy stats. How much health they have, stuff like that. Which I guess is useful, but I like ones that pack a punch.
no subject
If you have no interest in it, give it to me.
no subject
Sure thing, take it. [She gives the room they are in a sweeping glare, bouncing on her toes a bit with repressed energy.]
We should go to the pagoda. That's where your little handy computer scanned something.
no subject
You know the quickest route there. Go ahead.
no subject
The chocobo gives an indignant WARK in her direction, and flounces off. Yuffie stares at the bird, completely stunned. ]
What the hell? You saw that right?
[She popped up, not even bothering to brush the dirt off herself.]
You saw that stupid bird, right?!
no subject
I saw you trip and fall and embarrass yourself.
no subject
A ninja never embarrasses herself! I meant to do that. Obviously.
[Yuffie could still smell the chocobo feathers and points a finger at Mercury in accusation.]
You did see it! You had to.
no subject
[She totally saw it. But she'll keep them on-track for their goal. Anything less would be embarrassing to herself.]
Shall we go? [Her voice is light, as though getting knocked over by a phantom chocobo isn't much. They can track it down later, or figure out what happened.]
no subject
Last time she'd really been in here was when she fought her father...which was a strange experience. Not that she should have been surprised, Godo could be a little insane.]
I don't know what we'll find in here. Last time, I had to fight a bunch of guys, so we might get ambushed.
no subject
If you're afraid of an ambush, just go ahead back to where you started, and I'll take them on at once. [Arrogant, this one.]
no subject
Mercury's statements makes Yuffie raise an eyebrow, and then grin. If anything, she can appreciate some arrogance.]
Naw, I've taken them down once, I can do it again.
[With that little boost of confidence under her belt, she flings the door open, ducking into the incredibly empty and dark room.
She'd taken out her shuriken in the process of entering, but after seeing no enemies she drops her arm, a little disappointed.]
Crap, I wanted a fight too. Guess there's nowhere to go but up.
no subject
Are we being led?
no subject
Being led is entirely possible though, and she glares around the room.]
Probably. My dad is really into this kind of stupid crap.
[Yuffie starts to bellow into the dark, her hands on her hips.]
Listen up you old geeze! What the hell is going on?
no subject
Don't be a fool. If something is planned here, it's better not to alert him to put it in place. We'll be the ones to catch him.
no subject
But she knows Mercury has a point, and grudgingly stops with the yelling.]
I guess you're right. If anyone's here, they're probably at the top of this place. We should sneak up on them.
no subject
[If need be. She's not rash enough to attack them without assessing the situation first. She just feels they don't need a head start.]
no subject
They reach the final room without trouble, and the sense of foreboding growing in the pit of her stomach felt like a lead weight. She pressed her ear against the door, and could hear some noise inside. It was faint, but it was there.]
Okay there's definitely someone in there. How should we go in?
[Though Yuffie is usually one to try to take a leadership role, she's still a teenager. And just as she deferred to Cloud as a leader, she saw Ami as a leadership type at the moment. With confusion and worry in her mind, it was easier to have someone tell her what she should do. She had to admit, the other girl had been calm and collected the entire time.]
no subject
Well. Whoever could be there, she'd take them on.]
We go in. They're nothing next to us.
no subject
When she is able to focus, she sees...a tonberry. She gives it an absolutely stunned look, and it chattered at her, starting a slow trek in her direction.]
Oh. What the hell? [She skims by the creature. If they got a hold of someone, their attack was devastating. But the things moved like they were trudging through mud sometimes.]
Okay, tonberries definitely don't hang out around these parts.
no subject
It resembles a youma. [Certain types of youma, at least.]
Let's go on. We'll find the source instead of wasting our time with these.
no subject
[Unfamiliar term is unfamiliar to Yuffie, but she agrees with the Getting-Away-From-The-Tonberry thing. As they leave the room, she shuts the door behind them.]
I don't think those guys can open doors, but who knows. Cats can open doors for crying out loud.
no subject
That should seal it from any creatures like those. [It's not the strongest of seals; but it's enough for the theoretical cat. Or tonberry.]
Youma are creatures that served us in the Dark Kingdom in my world. [She makes no apology for that, as the softer-hearted Jadeite might.]
no subject
Huh. That's pretty cool. Wait the Dark Kingdom? Where the heck are you from?
no subject
It's been a few years since the Dark Kingdom existed that way. She doesn't introduce herself that way now; and the question is harder than it seems it should be.]
From Earth.
[She finally decides that this, true, is a good enough answer.]
no subject
It's all too much and she rubs her temples, trying to concentrate.]
No idea where that is. No idea where my people are. What the hell is going on?
