First Dream

[As far as the eye can see there's only a field of grass with a light wind blowing. It's freezing cold, but the boy laying back to look at the stars doesn't seem to notice. Or, if he does, he's used to it. He's been here for a while, slowly watching them blink out of existence one by one. Each time they do he reaches up, sadness written on his face - in the air around him. He can't stop it, he knows that, but he reaches anyway, trying as hard as he can. As if that will help. It doesn't and as each one slowly winks out, he seems to curl up on himself - bitter, hurt - lonely. It seems like hours, but soon, there's only a handful left.

Ventus shivers, rolling over and curling up - He's alone. He shouldn't have tried. How does he reach the light anyway? He can't. Sitting up, he pulls out the pieces of his wayfinder, face an open book of abandonment and betrayal. Hurt and anger.] ....I wish...

[And flings it away as far and hard as he can, uncaring where they fall.

Overhead, several more stars wink out, the rest shining just that much fainter.] I've never known you if you were just going to abandon me.

I'm sorry... [Dammit dammit dammit. What did he do to annoy her so much? It's not like with Vanitas - he doesn't know how to react to this, how to behave in a way that will get approval - and that, in his mind, is worrying and terrifying. And in some closed off part of his mind, sickening.

Because to much disapproval tends to lead into pain one way or the other, or worse if he's really screwed things up.

Can he wake up yet? Ventus would rather take Vanitas in a foul mood over this unknown.]

Being so frightened all the time, I don't plan to be like that.

[He doesn't answer for a while. She keeps asking him why he's not fighting back. It's not adding up and if this was a product of his own mind, then he'd be able to better gauge her, But he can't - unless it's from that part of himself - that small, hidden part that's still his strength of will...

Then he's show it he wasn't broken. It was better than nothing.] This... This is my dream. W-Why are you asking me this when I-I dreamed you - so un-unless you're me.. that part that's u-unbroken.. Wh-Why are you here?

[It was brave as he could get right now and even then - he wasn't as sure of himself as he displayed.]

Who knows? Maybe the reason I'm here is to say something like that.

Maybe. I'll wake up to Unversed and have to fight anyway. [It's said to flippantly, so off-handedly like it's normal.]

Or if I'm unlucky, Vanitas. [A shrug though. He kinda hopes not - getting woken up by him isn't as 'pleasant' as Unversed.]

[She sympathizes, in a way. Oh, he might not be quite as hard as Vanitas - an odd thought, if she knew it - but Kunzite is very harsh with her training as well.]

[She certainly wouldn't stop trying. She's become more agreeable to Kunzite only because of their common goals. It may take some prodding, but she's still capable of defying him.]

[She's not really being kind or cruel, not intentionally. It just irritates her to see that weakness. She's the type to tell even her enemies in the middle of a battle to fight her harder, resist her more.]

Being kind... Vanitas isn't kind much. It's nice, even if this is just a dream.

It gives me hope that I'm not as broken as he thinks... that there's a part that's not given up yet, you know?
