[ Today is a rather odd dream. Normally one thinks of tea parties and the such when they find the Hatter of Wonderland. Instead there is a room, filled to the brink with unfinished hats and pieces of clocks littered all over the floors. Clocks and hats of every era. Be careful where you step! The fellow in the cowboy hat and tweed long coat doesn't seem to notice you--but he will if you step on anything in the room. Or touch anything. He's laying on his back, cowboy hat on his face, twiddling fingers on his chest and seemingly asleep.

Not entirely true. You've never heard of the mad rules, have you?

Nothing like that. [The tone suggests she doesn't think much of them with that label, either.]

They're basically the rules that get you out of trouble with the Queen. Which means they are entirely illogical.

Won't she sentence you to beheading anyway?

Only if she knows. Which she might. But she might like my hats a bit too much to lob off my head.

She could take the head and keep the hat.

Don't' give her any ideas!

[There's a little toss of her head, and a dismissive sound.]

If she needs me to tell her, I doubt she's capable of doing it.

Well, being reminded doesn't hurt.

Not her, at least, in this case.

Yes, well... don't let her know that, eh?

Why would I worry about that? I'm just a hatter!

A hatter can also be an enemy's target.

No one is exempt from that. Not me, either. [The tensions of the brewing battles are starting to make their way into her dreams, she'll note when she awakes.]

[ He shrugs and steps over the mess of hats, heading straight back to the edge of the room where there's a wardrobe. ]

And what did you do to make the Queen angry, eh?

[Oh, that's easy.]

I don't consider myself her subject. Seems she finds that unforgivably insolent. [The words come easily, almost as though insulting the queen is a point of pride.]

Oh, now that? That will get your head lobbed off. Why do you even still have your head? Managed to slip away?

Would you have waited? [A raised eyebrow, because the answer is so obvious. No one would stand and wait for death, and such a stupid, ignoble death as that would be.]

Probably not. I do like a good run.

Then you already understand.

Actually, I'd like to see the end of that queen.

I was making sure you did.

And what then? We take down the Queen! What happens after?
