[ Today is a rather odd dream. Normally one thinks of tea parties and the such when they find the Hatter of Wonderland. Instead there is a room, filled to the brink with unfinished hats and pieces of clocks littered all over the floors. Clocks and hats of every era. Be careful where you step! The fellow in the cowboy hat and tweed long coat doesn't seem to notice you--but he will if you step on anything in the room. Or touch anything. He's laying on his back, cowboy hat on his face, twiddling fingers on his chest and seemingly asleep.

Tread carefully. ]

He's seen some odd things in his lifetimes. A man in a dress is not one of those things.

The Doctor spins and snaps his fingers, pointing at Cloud. "Yes! I do."

Excuse him, he's going to bring a bit of logic into the conversation even though they'll probably both regret it. Because - looking around at the piles and drifts and scatterings -

"...

Wouldn't it be easier if they were in order?"

Logic in Wonderland? What kind of insanity is this.

"Why would they be in order?"

He can already tell he's going to regret starting this thread of conversation but - well, too late now.

"So it would be easier to find the one you need when you need it?"

"It would, but logic doesn't really work here in Wonderland." The Doctor waves his hand. "Especially when the proper order can't happen. Time is gone. Kaput! Dead."

He's in a dress - again - so Cloud is willing to accept the lack of logic going on (the current conversation is helping a great deal with that) but -

"Time? How can time be gone?"

"Stopped. Cease to exist! Frozen!" The Doctor prattles on. "It usually takes something powerful, but somehow, she said Off with his head! And there went time."

Cloud will silently absorb that and he's not quite sure how it works really. Does that mean no one ages? Does it mean the sun never sets? Do people just forget how to count the days or that they should? Rubbing a hand through the hair at the back of his head, his confusion is obvious as he goes for the most immediate thing.

"Then why are you keeping the watches?"

Cloud is closer than he knows. Time doesn't exist in this Wonderland, hence why all the clocks never work. You can't measure what's not there. He's been toiling away at trying to make it work. Fix it. But, well, he lacks a time machine.

"Maybe it'll bring back Time." The Doctor comments softly. "What else can I do?"

It pulls down Cloud's eyebrows over his eyes but things are at least finally starting to make a weird kind of sense. Cloud understands the importance of time though it's more from a 'finally past that' standpoint. His past is a measure of time and while his future seems much more relaxed about that, he likes the solid feel of knowing, via time, that certain things are over. And not coming back. His eyes shift to look over the watches again. And then he asks the really important question.

"Why the hats?"

"Because I'm a hatter. Isn't it obvious?"

The Doctor reaches up and taps the cowboy hat on his head, with a grin. "Fixing Time is more like a hobby than it is my profession. Or maybe hatting is the hobby. I can't tell anymore. Been too long."

Cloud's not sure if wearing a hat makes you a hatter but since he's never met one he'll go with that logic for now. Focusing back on the basics though he'll go for the next question on the list.

"What happens if we fix time?"

"Everything moves forward. People stop being stagnant." The Doctor makes a wild gesture with his hand. "And then someone comes along and threatens the Queen."

Cloud, feeling as if he's been trapped stagnant for two years in some ways himself can understand the importance. He gives a nod, just a quick dip of his head in response, shifting the sword across his shoulders.

"Let's go."
