Uwaaahh!! I'm going to be late! ( and out like a shot, comes usagi from her house. she's dressed in her new high school uniform, already trying to beat the clock in order to be on time. there's a piece of toast in her mouth as she zooms by -- and it's not hard to imagine a trail of dust behind her at the pace she's trying to make )

Not on the very first day! I can't believe no one woke me up!! I didn't even have time for breakfast! How am I supposed to make it through the morning like this? ( and she cringes, rounding another corner at top speed, and skids to a stop, coming to a realization. she slaps her forehead... ) Maah! I forgot my lunch too! ( a groan ) This is shaping up to be one of the worst first days of school ever...

[Without another word, Ami pivots sharply and turns away. There may be no use in looking for her later.

And yet, when the time comes - school goes by in a blur of nothing - Ami is there, reading again, this time perched on the low wall where she'd once met Luna. Her legs dangle over the side.]

[mooneternal]

( usagi's day passed as a blur for different reasons, no doubt. the words ami had spoken to her that morning... so harsh and cold. like it wasn't the same ami-chan she had known for so long... but that was silly. ami-chan was ami-chan. something must have happened...
she'd looked everywhere she could think -- but the girl didn't appear to be anywhere. even the others she asked had no idea where to find her... and so, feeling a little defeated, she thought of maybe going to the mizuno condo, but going unannounced was rude, wasn't it...? she sighed -- and started in the direction of home -- as she finally caught side of the other girl )

Ami-chan... ( she keeps her distance, looking on with uncertainty... )

[waterfell]

[She'd meant what she said: She wouldn't wait a single moment. Usagi must have hurried - and not even bothered to talk to anyone else - to get here this quickly. Ami tilts her head. In a fluid movement, she lightly jumps down from the wall, landing easily just near Usagi.]

You called me out here for after school. What is it you want? Remember, I may not want to attack you inside, but off these grounds, be ready for it.

[mooneternal]

( she didn't understand this hostility... the coldness... where was it stemming from? hadn't everything been okay between them just the day before? ) Why would we fight? ( there's a pleading tone, and a look in her eyes that clearly speaks volumes of her confusion... ) Ami-chan... have I done something terrible to make you so angry?

[waterfell]

[It's the fact Usagi came that makes Ami gives her any answer at all, when her instinct is to simply leave and let Usagi see how it feels to be walked away from and left confused.]

A lot happened. You don't need to know it.

[mooneternal]

( that only leads to more confusion, it seems... ) What do you mean?! If you don't tell me, then... we won't be able to fix it! Ami-chan... If I've hurt you then... I... I'm sorry.

[waterfell]

[No. It's not that easy, and Usagi is not sorry. Sorry only lasts long enough to get a soldier again, to deceive again, to look out for herself again.]

You were never once sorry. You never once thought of the people betrayed by you.

[There's a cruel smile forming.] So how does it feel this time, to be the one betrayed instead?

[mooneternal]

But I would never betray you! ( she's quick to defend herself ) We're friends... Friends are the people we should try our best never to hurt! There are times when we fail though, and if I've failed you... then let me make it up to you somehow. There's no sense if we continue to hurt eachother! It's pointless!

[waterfell]

Isn't desperately offering a peace settlement... just the ploy of the loser, to buy herself time?

[mooneternal]

It's not... like that... ( there's a pleading look in her eyes... ) Ami-chan -- please believe me...

[waterfell]

You already accused yourself. 'Friends are the people we should never hurt', didn't you say that?

So let's get rid of the pretense and stop saying 'friends', alright Usagi-chan? [She deliberately twists the name with a sweet, almost caressing tone.]

[mooneternal]

( she winces at that... ) Ami-chan... I don't understand... What have I done?

[waterfell]

It's your own existence. It's your existence as the princess, and the ginzuishou.

[The one made her callous and careless; the other gave her the power.]

You only chained everyone around you to suffering.
