Uwaaahh!! I'm going to be late! ( and out like a shot, comes usagi from her house. she's dressed in her new high school uniform, already trying to beat the clock in order to be on time. there's a piece of toast in her mouth as she zooms by -- and it's not hard to imagine a trail of dust behind her at the pace she's trying to make )

Not on the very first day! I can't believe no one woke me up!! I didn't even have time for breakfast! How am I supposed to make it through the morning like this? ( and she cringes, rounding another corner at top speed, and skids to a stop, coming to a realization. she slaps her forehead... ) Maah! I forgot my lunch too! ( a groan ) This is shaping up to be one of the worst first days of school ever...

Iyyaaa! It hurts... ( but she picks herself up ) Sorry, sorry! ( and she bows with each mention of the word ) I should have been paying more attention!

[Lethe remains impassive, and seems to be waiting for Usagi to pick up the scattered belongings - both of theirs.]

Irresponsibility is a sign of decadence and decay.

( decadence? isn't that the way you described dessert sometimes...? either way, she doesn't seem to get it and laughs nervously, with an arm behind her head ) I'll be more careful next time.

[Nope, you'll make it right, right now.]

( that attitude earns itself a second look, and she tries to smile it off as she gathers both of their things -- and hands it back to the pink haired girl ) Haha... Sorry! Everything should be there...

[There's no answering laugh, but only that cold, frigid smile that never reaches her eyes. Something is wrong with them.]

What about the inconvenience I've suffered because of your clumsiness?

( she's beginning to realize that... ) Are you hurt? I didn't think the impact was that hard, I -- ...

Are you the only one with something to do? I'll also be late because of this.

[She certainly complains an awful lot.]

It was an accident! ( give her a break lethe, she doesn't like this anymore than you... ) I've already apologized...

[Hmph.]

What were you running so late for anyway? Was there something important you were doing?

[Surely, you can remember what you were doing right before running out of the house... right?]

( she sighs dramatically, her shoulders heaving with the effort ) It's the first day of high school... and I'm already I'm so late... I can't believe it... ( she wanted to start the year off on a good foot... it's what a mature 16 year old would do!! )

[It's been a long time since Lethe's worries were such everyday things. Whether it's sympathetic or not, at least the scolding stops.]

There'll be other days. Will you do this each time you're late?

( she groans... ) I can't be late all the time anymore... I'm a mature high schooler, now! ( she says this; and yet here we are... she mutters the next part, obviously only half serious... ) It's no fair, if the bed hadn't been so comfy...

[For that matter, when's the last she ever laid in bed late into the morning? Must be nice to be so oblivious.

Did your teachers punish you?

( a groan ) Yeah... Especially Harudo-sensei!! She would always give us a hard time, that's how she got that nickname... ( and she snickers to herself, reminiscing slightly... then sighs again ) But being sent in the hallway isn't very fun, especially when you can't even eat your lunch in the meantime...

[It feels a world removed from Lethe's own life, this girl whose biggest worries are when to eat lunch.]

Don't you ever think seriously?

( these are really problems, okay lethe? )

( different strokes and all that... but she doesn't quite seem to catch on to what you're saying yet... )

Well, I mean... of course there are other things to worry about, but lunch is important too! Especially when you have to go without... ( like today is shaping up to be for example... )

A hungry stomach from skipping lunch isn't the worst. The worst is more final than that.

I know... ( she seems to grow a little more serious with that. as she focuses on the ground, there's a far-off look in her eyes, and although there's a small smile on her lips -- its a fragile one... ) But sometimes, worrying about the smaller things in life is easier than the big ones... isn't it? Truthfully, there are times I wish that -- that was all there was to worry about.

Someone born into war can't spend their life thinking about if lunchtime comes at noon or one o'clock. [You may wish it, and she hears that hint that Usagi faces bigger challenges, but it simply doesn't happen that easily.]

War...? ( she looks up at that, genuine concern in her features ) What... do you mean -- "war?"

[Are you really so ignorant?]

The sailor wars. From the beginning, this galaxy was war.

Sailor wars?! ( what the heck was that!? this person... clearly they knew more about her than usagi had first realized... that bit seems to be sinking in right about now... )
