[New York City is all around him, a mixture of loud noise and constant movement. He's standing in the middle of the sidewalk, holding a piece of paper and scanning the crowd.

And there she is.]

Kate! [He starts running after her, pushing people aside as he goes.] Kate, wait!

[He runs faster and faster, following her through the streets, darting into alleys and making sharp turns but he can never quite reach her, no matter how fast he goes.

His lungs are burning, his legs ache but he keeps moving, taking another quick turn and nearly crashing into a brick wall.

A wall. A wall with no other exits in immediate view and too high to climb.]

...Kate?

[He looks around, expression momentarily helpless.]

[There is a girl sitting on top of the wall, legs dangling over the side. She is not, however, Kate. She is a Japanese girl, or young woman, perhaps in her late teens.]

[He looks around for a moment, then peers up at her, surprise evident on his face before shifting into hope.]

Did you see a girl come down here? White, long, dark brown hair?

[It was true, but Ami could probably be nicer and seem more concerned. Instead, she stands up and then jumps...

Instead of hurting herself, she lands easily on the ground - a feat she could accomplish as a senshi even in waking life, but which the dream certainly makes easier.]

He watches her, eyes distrusting for a moment before he looks around again. There was nowhere she could have been, nowhere she might be hiding.

For a moment, just a moment, he wonders if he was chasing ghosts,

But then the girl is jumping down and landing with a kind of grace he had not expected in the slightest. Then again, he'd seen odder things]

He's momentarily dazed, reaching out towards the wall and planting one hand against it. Solid, as is, he assumes, the man who seems to have been waiting there.]

The laws of physics are pretty clear on that sort of thing.

NOrmally I don't. [He looks around again, hoping to spy something, anything that might tell him where Kate might have gone off to.] I was running after someone. She came down this way and now she's not here.

She's not here. [Buffy says sadly, appearing just behind him. She thinks she hates living here the most when things like this happen. She hates the explaining.]

[He whirls around, staring at her. No one had been tailing him, he had been sure of that, so where the hell did she come from?]

She has to be, there's nowhere to go. [He turns to face her fully, studying her, making a quick assessment to see if she might be armed.] Who are you?

Buffy, is my name. [She says, a bit of 'duh' to her tone.] But she's not here. Kate. She's gone. [Another pang of sad.]

What are you doing here? Why are you following me? [Slightly paranoid? Maybe a little but things aren't right, things aren't right in the least and he wants to know what's going on.] There's nowhere to go, she's got to be here. I want r back.

[Of course he'd be witness to this. Peter's only there for the very end of the chase, to see Neal turn and run into a dead end, and he doesn't see what he's following, but the expression on Neal's face leaves Peter pretty certain what he's running after even before he says her name.

The fact that he isn't surprised in the least does nothing to lessen the disappointment in his expression as he takes a few steps closer.] She's not here.

[Neal spins around, not having been expected be followed by anyone.] Peter? What are you doing here? Where's Kate?

[Peter shakes his head, his hands on his hips.] I don't know. But she's not here. You're the only person who's come this way in -- five minutes, maybe longer.

I saw her. [There's a snap to his voice, an urgency that he doesn't bother trying to hide.] I saw her and chased her down here. I know i did.

Oops. Looks like you lost her. [Says a strange and quite possible inhuman man who seems to have appeared right next to him all of a sudden.] Was she important?

[He jumps, whirling around to face the speaker.] How did you-- [But he shakes his head, eyes darting around the alley trying to figure out where she is. It doesn't matter who this man is, all that matters is Kate.]

I need to find her, she's in trouble? [He's starting to pace the alley, fingers feeling the walls for anything he might be missing, though he doubts there's a door that he's missing.]

In trouble? Was she running away from something then? [From you perhaps? He seems to almost mimic the man now, moving his hands across the wall. He could probably make a door if his dream would allow him some control. But he was too curious to see how he would deal with the obstacle to try.] Maybe you should try another route.

[This is a dream, so Willow doesn't question anything. She's standing in the corner of the alley, her nose in a book, the title vague and unreadable at the moment. She looks up at him, visibly concerned.]

I'm sorry, she's not here. You just missed her.

Damnit! [He spins around, turning to face her. Yo9u're kidding, right? Where is she? She has to be here, there's nowhere to go. [He's frustrated and tired and he was so, so close. She can't have just disappeared.]

Somewhere else? [she guessed.] I wasn't really paying attention, I was reading.

Is she in danger? [This is the first thing she thinks of, even while asleep.]

[ Yeah, Peter uses these back alleys to get back home after work. What, that's not weird at all. It's way weirder that this guy practically runs into him, because that never happens in New York. ]
