Flip the Chessboard

The closer you get to the light, the greater your shadow becomes.

[But perhaps in this case, it was different. Prosaic and memorable as those words may be, they don't hold true to this moment.]

The closer you get to the light, the slimmer the chance you'll survive.

Isn't that right, Roxas?

[A pause, and the boy laughs, cold and chilling, staring about the dream world once shared by two close individuals with extreme interest. Roxas screams in his mind, but it's oh so easy to simply block him out- he'd learned to do that years ago.]

[There was so much here, so much to ruin, so much to-- break.]

[So many people.]

[So little time.]

[Lips curl upwards into a cruel smile, and the illusion of Roxas simply lasts but a moment. Then it's gone, and a shadow stands in his wake. Solid, alive... and with a stark, chilling resemblance to Sora that Roxas has never held.]

Let's go have some fun.

[OOC: all replies will be made with the journal [livejournal.com profile] endinsentiment. The flip of the chessboard occurs in the opposite other being in play-- and Roxas falling under possession instead of Sora. Please be advised violence and character injury is liable to occur-- please let me know if character death is okay.]

<3 thankies

[Glassy eyes gleam with the pleasure of the sight; they reflect the flames as she savors the destruction of that hated symbol. Mercury lets out a sharp, barked laugh as something inside her is released.

She, of all people, knows how useless so-called bonds of fate are. Friendship, love, all of it a lie, or easily shattered. She's seen it time and time again, in world after world. To finally see someone equally willing to tear them down only spurs her onward. She steps closer to Vanitas, and her lips curve upward.]

I'm not satisfied with just this. I want the rest of them to be torn down, too.

don't mention it <3

[He glances over at her, expressionless. Interest is vague and remote, but what was breaking things if you couldn't spur someone into breaking themselves?]

Be my guest.

[He'll readily step aside, to see what she can do. Talk is talk; act.]

[Exactly as she'd said, the trees start to break as the fires claim them, one by one until not just one tree shrivels, but the whole place is an inferno and the molten ground is littered with charred limbs fallen from the chaos. The air fills with a strangely pitched keening noise as their juices sizzle and simmer.]

There's no reason for something like those to exist.

[A hmph, and a small, upward quirk of his lips. It's good to see this place become as barren and empty in sight as it is in heart; a pitiful, small world.]

[But he's not one for company. This girl approaches him with the typical air of shared enjoyment and comradeship- hypocrisy. If one wants no connections, they don't connect over that feeling. This kid has no idea what she's contending with.]

[And that makes her all the less interesting.]

There's a lot of things that have no reason to exist.

[He can think of a few. One was standing right next to him. But as long as things keep burning, he'll keep her around till he's done. Until she's lost her use.]

[She has no illusions about tenderness; she does still find herself constantly drawn to want others to at least be near her. Even the brainwashed class at school had been enough, for awhile, despite her certain knowledge that it wasn't real. And she's always looked for common grounds, even if she doesn't look for kindness, or comrades, or friends from it.

And the truth is, she's always been playing with something too big for her, and always seen it too late.]

Ohh? [She draws the word out in idle interest.] What next?

[identity profile] endinsentiment.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
This world.

[He looks around them, wrinkling his nose in distaste. The sunshine, the peace. The happiness that revolves around this tiny, inconsequential place-- he loathes it. To the very core of his being, and beyond. Wants to tear and rip it all to it's very seams, and keep on ripping.]

Is just. Too. Small.

[Right now, so much closer to the fires of the demon from the sun, she doesn't balk at destruction. But her hate, as always, is far more personal: She'd love to tear apart the things that always-beloved girl loves.]

Too small? For what?

[identity profile] endinsentiment.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
For anything useful.

[He doesn't care for the whys of it. Everything deserves to be laid to waste, to fall into the negativity and chaos that has ruled him since the time of his birth. And if he dies-- again-- from the attempt? He'd be sure to drag a few more idiots with him.]

I think it's time it was put to rest.

[Void Gear is summoned, deathly in color against the palette of the beach itself. It takes little thought from there- drawing the blade over his head, he lets the darkness gather there. Into an explosive, raging fire that wages a destructive path into the very place he throws it.]

[The ground quakes, and when he's done, there's a hole in the side of the island where there wasn't before. Amidst the rubble, some of the broken rocks have traces of childish drawings, from a time when things were simple. Far too simple.]

[identity profile] waterfell.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[What should she care for this island, any more than she'd cared for the people she targeted solely to bring the senshi to her for their battles, or solely at a whim? No, instead, she is attracted to the power strong enough to do this.]

That was pretty good! However, now it's my turn.

[The rock of the island begins to melt into lava under her gaze. She smirks quietly, pleased with herself.]
