volume 1

[ Peter has no idea how he ended up here, on a couch, listening to a bunch of middle aged women and a few other assorted people talk about Pride and Prejudice. He lost count of how many times he was nearly force fed a cookie by some woman claiming that he's too skinny, and this is starting to feel like all those dreams about showing up to class without any pants on.

He's barely said anything about the book since showing up, instead opting to just sort of listen, and nod every once in awhile. It's easier to just agree with everyone than to pretend he cares about a rich guy marrying some poor guy's daughter. Great, it's heartfelt and mooshy, he gets it.

Running a hand down his face, he flips through the book again for what feels like the hundredth time, stopping on some page to skim through a paragraph, while another woman starts to talk about the historical ramifications of things that Peter chooses to ignore. At this point, he's pretty sure he's forgotten why he even agreed to this in the first place.
]

So what do you think about the book? [ And it's the first question actually directed at him. Oh yeah, this is exactly like those pantsless dreams he used to have, and now he's just... at a total loss for words. ]

Well, duh. It's not very romantic to leave them all hanging around. [wrinkles her nose] Gross.

Hey! No judge-y. And besides, it says right here it's romantic. Mr. Darcy likes a girl who can handle herself against the undead. [She thinks about what she just said and more to herself than Peter, she adds,] He has good taste.

Good. You better not be. [very stern look is this.] And look, all her sisters survived so she still has... competition. That's kind of creepy, isn't it? Fighting your sister for a guy. I would never do that with Dawnie. Gross. [Well, since that episode hasn't happened yet :| ]

You're right, that part is even creepier. Parents back then were all from Creepsville, selling off their daughters to the highest bidder. [is clearly disgusted by thisss.]

Eugh. I'd rather not. I'm glad I didn't live back then. [Buffy crosses her arms across her chest, pulling on her sweater as she leans back into the couch.] I know a guy who lived back then, and he turned out okay, but still. No thank you.

Oh, did I-- yeah. My ex. [shrugs like this is a normal admission.]

Nope. Well, except for that one Halloween-- Nevermind.

He's a -- [The old women are staring again and she picks up her book to hide behind.] A lot. Older than me. But you won't judge me, right?

[She whispers behind her book so only Peter can hear,] He's a vampire.

No, it's okay. [Despite her looking like she might cry.] Do you want to.. not be here? These ladies are really giving me the wiggins.

[identity profile] slayerpreferred.livejournal.com 2011-04-09 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I kind of had a feeling. [At their quiet discussion behind books, the old ladies turn up their noses in disgust. Buffy's pretty sure Act 2 includes head spinning and exorcism. She's blowing this pop stand before it has a chance to get up close and demony.

She reaches out for Peter's hand, and closes her eyes. They're in her bedroom, her own silent dreamworld she usually went out of her way to avoid.]

[She lets go a little abruptly, a faint blush visible across her cheeks.] It's .. room-y. Well, sort of. It's gotten me through anyway.
