○ 01 ○ Familiar Places

[At first, everything is dark. There's nothing but black and empty space...yet, somehow, this isn't scary at all. Maybe because there's something nearby - something warm and inviting. Safe.

A bright light in the distance.

But maybe not so far away after all. Soon there's solid ground. It's a circular platform that looks like stained glass, but doesn't feel fragile. It's brightly colored, and covered in pictures...pictures that must come from somewhere.

Maybe they mean something to the child on the other side of the platform. The boy is walking around, looking a little confused...and with good reason. He had just been here a few hours ago, hadn't he? The person he had been talking to before was sleeping. So why was he back here? Was this a dream?

That's when he turns around, finally noticing that he's not alone. In a confused, but friendly tone, he asks-]

How'd you get here?

Uh...sure, if you say so!

So how do you fight? With a sword?

[Knights use swords, so that was the first thing that came to mind. But it didn't look like she had one, so he was curious.]

Swords, schmords. I have this.

[She whips out her shuriken, and look at how much more elegant it is than a sword, kiddo. It's a thing of beauty.]

Not to mention I'm wicked quick, and can kick a guy in the face then tie his shoes together before he sees me coming.

Woah!

[He doesn't hear much of that second part, because he's too busy looking at the strange weapon. That's...different. Different from anything he's ever seen, that's for sure!]

I've never seen anything like that before. How does it work?

[Instead of explaining, she rears her arms back and flings the weapon as hard as she can into the darkness, smiling confidently as it disappears.]

I guess like a boomerang. Just more sharp edges, so you gotta be careful with it.

[She jumps up, the shuriken landing in her hand with a hard slap. Landing on her toes, she holds it in front of her.]

It's sorta big, but it suits me. Took me forever to perfect my technique and all, but it's awesome.

[She gives Sora a considering look - he's young, of course, but she'd started running around and jumping off high places when she started to walk.]

You interested in fighting, kid?

[He jumps a little when she throws the weapon, watching it fly away until he can't see it anymore...and then, watching it even more closely as it comes right back, and Yuffie jumps to catch it.]

Wha...wow!

[Give him a second, Yuffie - he has to get over the fact that he just saw one of the coolest things ever. No one on Destiny Islands can do that, that's for sure.]

Yeah, I am. One day, I want to be really strong.

[Because if he and Riku are really going to go on adventures together, he has to be able to defeat monsters and stuff. Right?]

[If Sora is a little stunned because of Yuffie's pure awesome her weapon skills, that's only natural. Everyone would be in awe of her, if they knew what was good for them.]


If you work at it, kid, you will become super strong. And kick all sorts of scary monster behind!

And if I can fight monsters, that means I can go on real adventures. Right?

Sure, you just gotta keep up with the practice. Then you can go out on adventures and find all sorts of monsters to beat down!

How long does it take to get that strong?
