☆ she dreams of sweets 003;

[ Tonight's dream is a simple dream. From the streets of Tokyo's Juuban district is a set of stairs that leads up to a second floor cafe. FRUIT PARLOR CROWN. It's a quaint family cafe. Plenty of booth seats and table seats all around. Large windows cover two of the four walls of the cafe, giving the area plenty of natural light for everyone to see.

In a corner booth of the cafe, it's empty except for one person and that person is Usagi Tsukino. The table she's at seems too large for her but there's something about it that exudes the feeling that she should be there -- that there isn't any place else in the cafe that she'd look right sitting at. She's sitting at one of the single chairs, a large parfait sitting in front of her as she sips on it contentedly.

She's not waiting for anyone.. or is she?

[Ami only makes a dismissive sound. As if it had ever been that easy to have Usagi to herself, away from the thousands of Usagi's other friends.]

This isn't about a walk in the park.

[Step. Step.]

I want more than that.

[It feels so natural somehow to say it, here and now. Her eyes stay focused in front of her as she comes close enough now to be invading Usagi's personal space in just another step or two. She shows no signs of stopping.]

[But right here and now, it is. All those feelings for Usagi, all that jealousy, all that possessiveness, take this form in the dream. Ami ignores the parfait glass just as she'd ignored the people: all of it just empty distractions, nothing. She follows Usagi into the booth, cutting off her target's easiest route to leave by as surely as if she maneuvered Usagi there from the start.]

You don't need to understand.

I'll show you.

[Her knee presses into the seat as she leans in even closer.]

[Ami simply follows Usagi deeper into the booth, deeper and deeper into this strange setting where only Ami seems to have the script.

It all ends the same way, Usagi. Ami's lips part in another of those malicious smiles, and she almost caresses the words this time.]

Running is no use!

[Love and war don't just erase the rules; they're the same, aren't they? All mixed up together.]

[Whether it's a quirk of the dream or whether Ami is that determined not to be thwarted, there's nowhere to go: Impossibly, Ami is waiting right in Usagi's path. She puts a hand on her hip: finished yet?

This is how it's always been. She chases Usagi, and Usagi never thinks about just what that means, never realizes Ami wants to be chased, never realizes what Ami was trying so hard to run towards with all that effort.

That ends tonight.]

[When Usagi finally meets her eyes, just for a moment, she puts it differently. Her voice is quieter, her demeanor calmer. She speaks what to her has always been the truth.]

Is that how much you don't want to be with me?

[Just this once, she wanted it to go differently; this one day when she can finally tell these feelings. She wanted to be met.]

[identity profile] waterfell.livejournal.com 2011-08-05 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
[The words unsettle her for a moment. She does hate Usagi.

Doesn't she?

Except that behind all that hatred had always been that desire to have Usagi for herself, away from others, to be the one filling Usagi's mind instead of Chiba Mamoru or the one she wanted to be with instead of her other friends. To be the only one who touches her.

All those betrayals she rages against are really betrayals of that feeling, of that passionate desire to be important to Usagi: important enough to spend time with, be with, save. It's not the betrayal of the planet, of the senshi, of the past life or of the Moon Kingdom; it's the betrayal of the lonely girl.]

Is this hate or love?

[She asks it as if she doesn't even know the answer herself; perhaps she doesn't. That hate and that love are all the same. Frustrated by the question, by her blocked thoughts, by the very situation, by the confusion it's making of her mind, she finally reaches out to pull Usagi to her, to crush Usagi's lips with her own, roughly.]

[Ami doesn't let go easily, and simply brings an arm to Usagi's back to hold her steady. She deepens the kiss, and it tastes of ice just as surely as Usagi tastes of that parfait.

She could never have her fill, but finally she lets Usagi go as the shock of her own actions catches her. She stares openly, lost, as though caught in a spell starting to break. She makes one final accusation.]

Why couldn't you notice me sooner?
