Non-event intro
The first impression one gets is that this place...is a hospital. Very new, with some futuristic technology that doesn't seem very hospital-like - IVs replaced by what look like Clearasil pads, for example, and then there's the endless urban view outside - but even in the future there's no mistaking the smell of sterilization, or the sounds of beeping heart machines, or the sight of doctors in bloodied scrubs washing their newly-ungloved hands at sinks.
The group of doctors have just finished, judging by the blood, a rather difficult operation. Difficult, but successful. And it's quite clear who they have to thank, judging by the fact that they are all congratulating one person as she takes her surgical mask off. She's clearly the youngest of the group. And somehow - despite the praise, despite being the one who saved the patient - her reaction is simply to nod and continue washing her hands. Then, after that, she simply begins to walk off towards the locker room, merely stating that she would change and prepare for the next patient.
At best it could be construed as shyness - of course the faculty all know that the newest member of the crew kept to herself and didn't like to mingle much. Nor was she much of a bedside person for some patients. But the neurosurgery wing wasn't exactly a place for the weak or gentle of heart, and besides that, her ample talent more than made up for her deficiencies. And given those talents the hospital wanted to keep her - and so did her fellow surgeons.
Thus, the woman known to normal society as Dr. Aki Izayoi was left to her own devices in the locker room. That is, she was left to her own devices until now...

ohlook. doctors everywhere XD
It goes well - of course it does. And Ami feels a decided satisfaction over it. She even goes so far as to greet Aki politely afterward as she retrieves a sandwich for her dinner.]
Congratulations on your operation today.
ALL YOUR ORS ARE BELONG TO US
Still, this one had said something, so Aki had may as well return the lip service in kind. Her reply is almost monotone, not particularly nice - but not really mean either. It's merely a general disinterest, nothing particularly aimed at Ami.
"Thank you."
they fail at socialization though, clearly. XD
No reason, except the pervading attitude that she couldn't cut it on her own, that the so-called prodigy was only here because of her mother's famous name, and was unlikely to amount to much.
She hated that.
She lived every day disproving it. Most of it had finally died down.
Without much encouragement to make conversation, Ami sits down a polite distance away to give both of them a semblance of privacy. She takes out the sandwich, and takes a bite. She'd brought a few charts to review and finish, hadn't she...? After another bite, she takes them out, clearly marked and nearly finished.
The case on top, clearly visible, turns out to be fairly interesting, with a few strange aspects that might occupy a sharp mind.
*refrains from making a light bulb joke*
In any case, it didn't matter. The case on top was one worked on by Aki, incidentally; she hadn't been the primary doctor, but she had been a part of the operation. It was a relapsed schizophrenic, and it was an experimental surgery to alleviate the symptoms by aiding in the regulating neural and hormonal responses. The details are fascinating, though the outcome seems to be inconclusive.
Meanwhile, Aki has left, and returned. It turned out they wouldn't need her for the surgery after all - it had been postponed. So she was going to be in charge of making the rounds. Again.
"Hn." She turned to Ami. "You over there."
Re: *refrains from making a light bulb joke*
"Doctor Mizuno," she says clearly; she invites no intimacy, and maintains the dignity of that position, a polite if pointed reminder that she is not some errand girl or some 'you over there'.
To further underscore the point, she refrains from standing or asking Aki to go on, though she still listens. She's not beneath anyone.

"Then shall we go?"

This actually had nothing to do with her medical condition, and which Aki simply nodded, barely hiding the fact that she didn't really care about the condition of the chicken parmesan. She merely pushed the old woman's hands away from her clipboard.
"Please do not touch that."

So she follows Aki without complaint, into the next room, where she expects routine to play out once more.
