It's a castle unlike anything mankind has seen. True -- castles of all different shapes and sizes have littered throughout civilizations. Grand palaces covered in gold and kingdoms forbidden to even the common folk of their glorious empire.

But what makes this kingdom so special? If you look up, it's not the normal sky. Instead, the backdrop is the black blue color of space and hovering above is a view of the Earth.

Welcome to the Mare Serenitatis, The Sea of Serenity., dear dreamer. In the center, protected by a large and magical bio dome is a large castle. The roof tops are reminiscent of from India but it's not the only predominant ancient Earth kingdom influences -- although looking through the castle one can see that this castle backdates anything that Mankind has ever known. Where you are now is in the courtyard. There's the main pathway lined in polished white stone and fountain plinths adorn the water surrounding the mini fields of flowers inside of the courtyard.

Standing in one of the many areas of flowers is a lone woman. Most who know her would recognize her as Usagi Tsukino: the young girl with blue eyes and that peculiar hairstyle. But, this lovely lady embodies something the young girl has not honed yet. She is graceful, quiet and wise. She wears a gown pearl in color with an opaque pink ribbon that almost looks like wings that span from the waist of her dress. Her hair is still up in that familiar style, but atop of her head is a small golden crown and gracing her forehead is an upturned golden crescent moon.

Mistress of this castle; she is the only one in the courtyard and her eyes are staring quietly at the Earth, unaware of any one who may have stumbled upon this spot.

[The size of the package is far too small for that - unless Mercury's spent her time developing some tiny mechanical study aid, which is not entirely outside the realm of possibility. She refuses to be baited, only smiling mysteriously to tease Serenity.]

Hurry and you shall know. However, since you seem so eager to resume studies, perhaps we should begin after this.

[Mercury, the princess of buried mischief. Inside the package, it turns out, there is a slender silver bracelet, much like the senshi's star bracelets, with charms of harps and crescent moons, together in a multitude of different pairs. Mercury smiles nervously. Will Serenity like it? Is it truly appropriate?]

I.. believe I will have to pass on studying until later. [ MUCH later if she can help it. Serenity loosens the ribbon tying the box together and when she's finally able to open it, she reaches in and pulls out the bracelet.

She stares at it in breath taking wonder. She slowly moves the bracelet from charm to charm, intrigued while her heart warms up. ]

Oh Mercury...

[ When she finally reaches the last charm, Serenity clutches it in her hand and holds it to her chest. ]

This is absolutely lovely. Thank you so much.

[All the teasing vanishes into a hopeful smile. Somehow, she still has to ask it directly.]

Do you like it?

[Or maybe she just wants to hear it. She can see that smile, the way Serenity examines every tiny nuance of the gift. It's a symbol of their closeness, as more than princesses, more than princess and guardian; as themselves.]

Like it? I love it.

[ Serenity loosens her hold on the small trinket and then undoes the clasp that holds it together. To which, she leaves it in her open palm and motions it to Mercury with a smile. ]

Will you help me put it on?

Mm. [She steps forward almost shyly, and carefully fastens the small clasp. She tests it with a firm tug with a single finger and, satisfied it will hold, steps back again.]

Happy Birthday, Princess. And many more in the future.

[ Serenity pulls her wrist back and in the Earth light, she watches as the gems and charms sparkle in their own special way. She's about to twirl the bracelet once around her wrist, but she stops short when she hears Happy Birthday.

It echoes in her mind loudly. ]

It is my birthday, isn't it?

"Princess?" Of all the reactions, Mercury, used to the princess' enthusiasms, hadn't expected that. It's the first hint that something is different here, changed.

She tries to laugh it off, make it into a joke that any of them would have made to the princess in this situation:

"Had you forgotten your own birthday?" Somehow it doesn't quite sound like a joke.

[ Serenity does not answer that question right away. Her eyes calmly focus on Mercury, knowing that the gears in that head of hers are starting to turn. There's not much time left before her identity is fully realized so before she finally lets the cat out of the bag... so to speak. ]

Let me ask you a question, Mercury.

[ She finally does start moving, heading back to the main path as fluidly like the water around them. ]

If you were given a chance to find out the future, whether it be a happy or sad one, would you take it?

[This is far more serious than she'd expect for a birthday, and it makes her serious in turn. Mercury starts moving only after Serenity has taken a few paces, leaving herself deferentially behind the princess but close enough for them to continue speaking.]

I know in my head, I should say no. We should not look at the future. But, a part of me would want to know.

[ It's the curse of becoming older; you become much more serious. All that energy you had when you were younger is replaced with a calm contentment. That's what has happened the Serenity.

When they finally make it to the steps that lead in the the Palace proper, Serenity takes one step up before turning back around to glance at her young friend. ]

I believe the future is what you make it out to be. You may have a glimpse of something wonderful, but, it's what you do in life that leads you to the dreams you want.

[She only has one answer to this, an answer she'll keep as long as she possibly can, until everything crashes around her and leaves her bereft even of that faith. She turns a trusting and open smile up towards Serenity, who is now taller thanks to the advantage of the step.]

I believe you will lead us to that beautiful future we all want.

[After she speaks, she draws closer, emphasizing her words by her nearness. Her smile becomes brighter.

[ The answer pings a small pain in her heart. But, even if she feels it, her face doesn't betray that emotion, if only slightly. It could be passed off as anxiety however and hopefully the Mercurian princess will see it as such. ]

Even if I despise studying and boring royal proceedings and would rather sneak out into the city? [ She's trying to steer it back to being light hearted. ]

[Even this fails to deter Mercury, now. She only nods, and continues earnestly.]

I believe you will learn everything you need to, to become the Queen of our Silver Millenium.

[That's why she bears with all of Serenity's light-minded ways: She trusts to the outcome because of Serenity's heart.]

[ The pain begins growing now. Because she knows that things will not end the way they all believe in the world this Mercury exists to. Serenity smiles gently, and even if the words hurt, they flatter her as well and she feels that a hug is in order. ]

Thank you, Mercury.

[ Her small arms, even at this age, wrap around the other Princess tightly. Even if it's not her Mercury.. she still can't help but appreciate that she used to have those who were behind her. ]

You and others have the patience of Gods when dealing with me.

[She believes, because her princess says they will find a way, make a way. It's that simple, to her. She embraces Serenity after only the briefest of hesitations; she has become used to her princess' affectionate habits. She smiles softly even as she gently disagrees.]

Patience is when there is a burden to be borne. You are not.

[ Feeling the hug return makes Serenity's heart warm and she squeezes tightly. Knowing that the moment she lets go, that this moment will be lost.. perhaps to the waking world or maybe to something much worse... ]

Your words are too kind.

[She lingers as long as she dares, as long as she can hold her princess before crossing into impropriety. She's so reluctant to go somehow; something of Serenity's mood transfers itself to her, or maybe her own subconscious knowledge asserts herself, telling her not to let go. Not yet. It all disappears once she does.

But finally, she knows she needs to. She lets go, and fades into waking.

When she wakes up, Ami has the uncomfortable feeling of the dream and waking blended together: It's Usagi's birthday.

What a foolish thing to be thinking about, and what a foolish dream. But somehow it stays with her, all through the day.]
