1st Crystal

[Oerba, Vanille's dear home town. What would have happened if she and Fang never became l'Cie? Well she can very well experience it now. There she was, just a normal girl from Gran Pulse. Though tougher than the average human girl which came from living around many large beasts, she was sans powers, abilities, summons, and tattoos.

She sits upon a concrete railing and looks outwards at the mountainous scenery, smiling wistfully and swinging her legs delicately. There are Oerbian people walking around, bustling, laughing, and being a large family with each other.

A little robot comes rolling up to Vanille, making a little noise. The girl looks down at it]

Bhakti!

[She looks over at it and pulls it up with her on the concrete ledge.]

Here to give me some company?

[She giggles, but she knows this isn't her place. She knows this isn't her reality. She knows she's curled up next to Fang in a crystal stasis, dreaming forever with her friends all right and saved and she's all right with that.]

"I'm the handsomest guy there'ttebayo," He stated with a wide grin on his face. "Believe it."

Vanille nodded as he described his village. It sounded like a nice, peaceful place. Nothing like the dangerous lands of Gran Pulse. And thus a conclusion was made. Perhaps Naruto wasn't from this land at all and traveled into her dream somehow.

The Oerbian girl giggled at the boast. "I can tell!" she commented with a wink.

She led him more and more towards the outskirts where they started getting into a more mountainous setting. This was where it got a little more dangerous, but she wasn't afraid!

"Be careful out here, there are some monsters walking around. But don't worry, I can handle them!" she chirped.

Naruto felt a grin light up his face when she winked at him. He liked her, this Vanille. She was good-natured, if anything. No wonder he felt so peaceful.

"Whoa... check out those peaks!" Naruto let out, lowering his hands from the back of his head. The blond started out at the mountains, his eyes wide. "Man... I must we way out. There are only moutains in Iwa and the Land of Snow!"

He gave Vanille a look. "...M-Monsters? You have monsters out here?" He wondered if it was anything like the Forest of Death. "...What kind? Giant centipedes? Monstrous snakes?"

The girl tilted her head again, her pigtails bouncing to the side. "I've never heard of those places before" But she didn't bother to tell him that it was crystal dust and not snow. If he tried to make a snowball, it definitely wouldn't work.

"Mmm...nothing like that" she explained. "More like really big wolves and bears and frogs! The frogs are really poisonous, so be careful!"

She skipped ahead a bit then turned around.

"Hey Naruto? What if I told you that this is my dream?"

"I'm a Frog Master," Naruto stated, tilting his chin up in pride as Vanille skipped on ahead. When she asked him the strange question, the Naruto offered her a grin.

"I'd believe it," The blond stated, and he kicked some of the "snow" up. "No girl has even been this nice to be before! I must be dreaming!"

She laughed lightly at that. "You're a really nice guy, Naruto I don't see why anyone wou--"

There was a low growl behind a large stone. A long snarling, drooling snout was seen coming out into view.

Vanille reached behind her and pulled her staff out that unfolded into what looked like a long white deer's antler. She bent her knees slightly, getting into a stance.

"Get behind me" she said to the boy.

That's when it came out. A gigantic wolf that was about the size of a horse and twice its girth. Its eyes were white and its claws looked like it could tear out a chunk of the mountain side.

"WHAT--"

"IS--"

"--THAT?!! WHAT IS THAT?!" Naruto shouted, throwing his arms into the air as Vanille got in front of him. "Get away from that thing dattebayo!"

"It's one of the Pulse monsters" she said looking around, seeing if they could just bolt and try to lose it instead of her trying to take it down. Which, by herself, it was highly unlikely. She might be able to injure it or distract it. Unless she used her magick!

"Fira!" she moved her staff.

.....

Nothing.

"Uh-ooooooh"

Naruto watched her use her fire attack--so he wasn't dealing with just a really cute girl... he was dealing with a really cute girl... with fire-power! Except... nothing happened. He had a feeling that wasn't the way her attack was supposed to work.

He didn't ask her to step back; Naruto threw off his cloak, the cloth landed in the powder of crystal dust. He moved forward lightning fast--and suddenly there were five of him, circling the creature as one threw the original Naruto high into the air. The four on the ground moved into the creature, flipping backwards and slamming their feet into its body with heavy kicks, each one chanting.

"U!"

"ZU!"

"MA!"

"KI!" At the last kick, the wolf-like creature flew upwards. The original Naruto was spinning downwards from the sky towards it, and he lifted his hands, his heel slamming down into the monster's face.

"NARUTO COMBO!!!" He shouted, and the monster cratered down into the ground, Naruto skidding to his feet beside Vanille. "Lets move!"

Vanille's eyes widened as Naruto was suddenly five Narutos! It was an all out barrage! It was a lot like Snow's fighting style where he just went all out with his fists. But waaaaay cooler.

"Woooooow...." she let out as he landed beside her.

"Right! Let's go!" And with that, she started to run away! One of the things she was best at.

Once they were a good distance from the monster, she plopped down onto the ground that was less covered in crystal dust, panting.

"Are you okay?" she breathed out.

"My cloak vanished," Naruto let out, looking back to where the monster had been. "...But I think I got it." Or something close enough to it. Well, the dream had designated it was useless, and thus, the cloak had vanished.

Naruto looked towards Vanille, squatting down by her.

"You okay? It looks like your fire jutsu didn't work."

Vanille looked up at the blond boy. Who knew someone that small could pack that much of a punch? But then, Hope was shorter and could do his own share of magick damage as well as taking it.

"I'm fine" she answered. "What's 'joo-sue'?"

Did he mean her magick?

"Joot-sue," Naruto stated again, and he offered out his hand to help her up. "It means 'technique', or attack'. Your fire technique didn't work? I have a feeling something went wrong."

"Joot-sue...." she repeated, her Oerban accent laid heavily on it.

She looked at her staff that was still in her hand and shook her head. "Mm-mm...I wonder why" she said. She took his hand and stood up.

But then, if she was in her memories, a place just like she used to know.

Vanille lifted her skirt by her left thigh and looked down at it. It wasn't there! her l'Cie brand wasn't there.

Naruto's eyes shot down to Vanille's thighs as she displayed a gracious expanse of skin--and her skirt was already very short. The ninja felt like he was suddenly frozen in place, and he knew he needed to look away because he was in such a dangerous situation, but, but...!

He just couldn't!

So there he said, expression and body frozen as Vanille checked for her brand.

...This was officially the best dream he had ever had.

"It's not there..." Vanille said aloud as she let her skirt flutter back down. "I was something called a l'Cie" she started to explain. "They're made by something called fal'Cie. We get special powers when we become l'Cie, but it looks like I'm not one right now..."

She then looked at Naruto, changing the subject sort of.

"But what you did was amazing! How did you do it?! Was it a 'joot-sue'?"

Naruto stared at her blankly for a moment, before blinking a few times and shaking his head. Play it cool!

"A l'Cie..." Naruto let out, getting thoughts of thighs out of his mind. "...Never heard of it. Huh." Why wouldn't she be one right now? He was still a ninja.

When Vanille asked him about his jutsu, the boy seemed to snap out of it. "Oh! Uh... yeah! It was a jutsu. One I made up myself!" He stated proudly. He made a few dramatic poses. "The Uzumaki Naruto Combo!"

Vanille clapped her hands a bit. "It was really impressive! Not many non-l'Cie people could do something like that. Especially to a monster that big!" she praised.

She moved her hand up to her mouth then pointed at him. "Say...you said you're from 'Ko-no-ha' and that you do 'joot-sue'. What else can you do?"

"Well, I'm a multi-talented guy..." Naruto stated, feeling his confidence getting a sudden boost. This was great! He was alone with a cute girl, a really cute girl!, and here he was, with no one cooler around to throw hi off his game! This was the time to impress! "I can do a lot of things! After all, I'm going to be Hokage! That's the village leader. It means you're the strongest in the entire village!"

Vanille's green eyes widened. "The strongest in your entire village? How big is your village?" she asked with the utmost interest. She really was eating all of this up.

It was as if some sort of cute foreign hero showed up in her crystal stasis dream to give her some exciting, fun, adventurist company! She wondered what else he could tell her about this strange new land.

"Konoha? It's huge!" Naruto exclaimed, and he threw out his arms. "Its one of the Five Great Cities--its one of the most powerful cities in existence! And its great! The sun is always shining, and there is always a gentle wind..."

Naruto lowered his hands, offering her a grin.

"But your place is pretty cool too. And that creature! That kind of stuff would be great practice to get stronger!"

Naruto put his hands on his hips, smiling. "Buuuut, of course, a great hero like me needs to take a break! And Gran Pulse and your city looks like perfect place to do it. You said this was a dream, right?"

"That place sound beauuuuuutiful! I'd like to see it!" she said. She was all for leisurely nature walks and seeing different kinds of trees and plants and animals. And it looked like Pulsian animals didn't exist in Naruto's place.

Vanille gave an abashed laugh. "I guess so. Sometimes I just run away if I can. They're really tough if you're not skilled enough. But you look like you could take care of it easy!"

The redhead watched as Naruto placed his hands on his hips. She giggled at his heroic charm. He reminded her of a mini Snow. He even had bright blue eyes and blond hair!

"Yeah. I'm...I'm dreaming." she said with a nod.
