It was a night like any other. The sun had long set as "Masumi," on her way home from the one of Juuban's photo labs -- had spotted a youma draining the life force from an innocent bystander! And obviously she couldn't have that! As she held her hand in the air, she transformed into the sailor suited soldier of love and justice... Sailor Mnemosyne!

She sprinted forward, confident that she would reach the scene in time before it was too late. Jumping up to the roof with the moonlight shining at her back, she called out bravely -- "Hold it right there!" Striking a pose, she sized up the monster below, and took note of the captive in its grip. "Picking on those who want to reminisce about loved ones is disgraceful! One of the most precious things is recalling times of spent with friends and family! In the name of the river of memories, Mnemosyne, Sailor Mnemosyne won't forgive you!"

She could send an arrow through Kyuubey right now- but it wouldn't stop him, and besides, this foolish girl in front of her was already a magical girl, and not the one she intends to protect. Homura settled for... monitoring the conversation.

It left Kyuubey the chance. "I'm sorry if I haven't given a very good impression," he put on a small show of regret. "We've had our own arguments after knowing each other this long."

Only a sharp eye would have caught Homura's quick, unfeigned surprise. Did he know-? Her one trump card...

"Knowing... eachother?" That wasn't exactly the role of a youma, which made her frown as she repeated his words. This creature... "What -- are you?" she asked, and without waiting for an answer, persued -- "Are you allies?" she wondered. Was this something akin to the guardians of Mau?

"We are not allies." This time, Kyuubey seemed content to let Homura speak uninterrupted. "We have many causes to disagree and have no goal in common."
