Rinoa is a better person than many. To be fair, a better person than her. Mercury is still capable of sacrifice, but there's a bitterness in knowing it wouldn't be acknowledged, that it would be for ignorant or ungrateful people. If she were faced with the same, can she honestly say she would give herself up, or is that deluding herself because it's easy to say that sort of thing when it's only hypothetical?
